Thanks for that. Never said I was super classy anyway. Chalk it up to lack of sleep for the past three weeks. It's never super classy to correct someone's spelling, but if you're gonna do it, actually be correct.

Ah, it's alright, I'm a big boy. I can take it....it's never super classy to come in somewhere new and correct a long time member with your first post...be pedantic if you like but maybe wait a while...

....hey Jade!....I have read this book over fifty times since my first reading it in second grade. This scene has never bothered me.
And I think the main reason is that I firmly believe as a reader we should go on the journey the author takes us on, and accept it the way they presented it.
To look back 31 years later and judge tiny sections of a huge story just doesn't make any sense to me.
Sometimes a swamp is just a swamp and an act of love is just an act of love; be it carnal or for unity.

You've formed an opinion based on other people's opinions - not your own, and without reading the book.
Since you seem to not be getting my point and like to argue.. my "Opinion" is about free-will. I have read the excerpt from the novel about the "sexual encounter" between the young children and stated that to "Me" it is unaceptable in my morals and values. How are other people's opinions affecting mine when it comes to this. These are facts, not opinions. Doesn't even make sense what u said. Peoples opinions are what they take from and look into deeper meaning of this act. Not what was written. When u can tell me that there was no sexual encounter between the children in this novel then i would agree with you that i based my facts on other peoples opinions.

...nope.....not gonna evoke any homophobic response from me....I have carefully read every post in this thread. I have a thought experiment for you. Replace Bev with Bill. Reread all the posts with that in mind. Does it change how you think or feel? (I'm not making judgement or even declaring my own thoughts.)

Neither. The posts here are from intelligent people. I am genuinely interested in people's responses to the thought experiment. I'm not making a declarative. Would it change your defense, ambivalence, or outrage to the scene?i can't quite tell if you're going for emphasizing the double standards that tend to exist when it comes to how people view sexuality in girls vs boys, or trying to imply that people would (or should) be outraged if it was an all male scene. vagueness is not your friend in this case.
