The Dark Servant (Krampus) comes to town ...

Hello Stephen King fans (of which I am one and am seriously considering sleeping in front of a book store in NYC to meet him on November 11),

I'm Matt Manochio, and I'd like to introduce myself as an author whose debut, The Dark Servant (Samhain Publishing), hits shelves and eReaders on November 4 (thanks for the one-week head start, Mr. King). My book deals with Krampus. Ever heard of him? Many Americans have not because Krampus originates in Europe. He's the dark companion to Saint Nicholas (yup, Santa Clause). Back in the day in Europe, Saint Nick rewarded the good kids and farmed out the bad ones to this devil called Krampus, who punishes the naughty.


(I'm just grateful none of the King family has written about him!)

I set my Krampus in New Jersey (why not?), and, well, bad kids better watch out.

Krampus is a beast-like creature from the folklore of Alpine countries thought to punish children during the Christmas season who had misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards well-behaved ones with gifts. Krampus is said to capture particularly naughty children in his sack and carry them away to his lair.
...given my size, I used to be a Big Man On Krampus....
