was Dinah the head of the Langoliers, calling them with her blind eyes (and her telepathic powers) ?
Not sure yet. I haven't finished the story. We are discussing the first hundred pages tomorrow evening. Should be interesting to find out though. Morgan will be leading the group tomorrow evening as I have been called away for a family emergency. Leaving tomorrow first thing to travel north.
isn't this thread for people who already read the story ? Please clarify, so we avoid writing spoilers.
So can we safely assume at least the first 104 pages of Langoliers have been read by everyone reading/writing here and any reference to things happening after page 104 should be marked as spoilers ?Hi there! Since VultureLvr45 is not online, I will jump in to answer. Last year Vulture started a book discussion group on the boards. We started with the first story in Nightmares and Dreamscapes and read a story each week then met online to discuss. For some folks it was a first time read, and for others it was a reread. We just wrapped up the last story in N&D last week and are now starting on the novellas in Four Past Midnight. Again, for some it's new, others a reread. Since the novellas are much longer than the short stories were, we are only reading a certain amount for discussion each week. The title of the thread will show what story we are discussing, up to what page and the date of the discussion. We start on Fridays at 9:30 EST.
Now, if you want to just post on the story, then use any other thread, like the one you started a while back, to discuss. It still might be a good idea to use spoiler tags if you are going to be discussing any major plot points. And if you are free tonight and want to join us for the first 104 pages discussion, we'd love to have you. Hope that helps!

I've been a bad boy. I started the langolliers and tried to stop but couldn't. So i finished the whole story. But now i will only discuss the four first chapters. In the first chapter we are introduced to our main characters. We faveorite part of this is when Dinah, the blind girl, wakes up and we can follow her thoughtprocess and how she after reasoning through several possibilities very bravely holds her calm until she touches that hair which mistakes for a scalp (it is a wig). Then she screams and our other characters wakes up. Masterly described.
The second chapter is really dominated by Nick, The Brit with a background, together with Brian. Nicks way of handling panic and the crazed businessman in a rough but effective that are totally clear of where the priorities lies. It goes a long way to restoring Brians sense to where it should be.
In the third chapter they have decided on another landing point and there is also the interesting and sometimes amusing discussion between the detective writer and Albert of what could have happened. The discussion of possibilities and so on. He obviously likes what he is doing, first he creates a solution and then he turns it down. To me the detective writer is a bit to attached from the whole story to be whooly credible. All the others show different symptoms that relate to the situation they are in. He acts like he sits in his office and thinking out a plot. That i think is a minor flaw. It is very well written and we get to know Albert who obviously is a bright teenager.
In the fourth chapter they land in Bangor (Bang-Gore). It is mainly about the discovery of the deserted airport. Here Dinah enters the Story for real again when she comes with her warning that she can hear something. And that it is getting closer. Brian is the sceptic but are overruled. Nick doesn't hear a thing he says but he knows that blinds have a very trained hearing so he believes her. The crazed businessmann, craig, decides to desert them and play a game of his own. You can see that the only important thing for him is to get to Boston, not other humans lifes. He is even prepared to kill to get his way. Not a very nice guy. We have gotten his background story so we know why he is like he is. Thats one great thing with King. He gives background stories to most opf his characters at the same time that the tension rises.
And there i stop. I probably won't be there in the night. I will hopefully be asleep. But these where some of my thoughts on the first four chapters. Have a great discussion. I'll look in again. But thought i should give a few comments at last.
Hi Kurben! I really enjoyed your earlier post - great synopsis of the first four chapters! I had to force myself to put the book down, I wanted to keep reading also...I'm here!! Couldn't sleep, so what the heck.
I also agree wholeheartedly about the fantastic character development - SK is a master!I'm here!! Couldn't sleep, so what the heck.
