For me personally the second half was chilling and very disturbing. This Ardelia character one of the more unpleasant of Kings bad guys.
Agreed! But, at least there was a somewhat happy ending, right?
I also liked, in a sidenote, that he ended the story without somekind of epilogue were they lived happily together forever. He hints at it but he also hints at bumps in the road.
This story somewhat reminded me of Suffer The Little Children in Nightmares & Dreamscapes.
Yeah, it is, in a king way, I don't think he closes his eyes for the fact that experiencis like these they went through can both strengthen and weaken a relationship.
It was extremely difficult to read about the horrific abuse Sam suffered as a child.
Yes, it really hurt. You had of course guessed that it was something of that kind but the describtion King delivered. Made you be right there and feel everything.
Yes, I did sort of figure that was what happened to him, I was just surprised it was described I think.
I also liked how this character Pete grows through the story. From the beginning Sam is looking down on him, with a friendly eye but still, but he prooves to have more strenth than believed.
The story definitely says something about not repressing hurtful memories.
For me the story really began to gather steam and rise from good to really good with the teklling of Petes story in chapter eleven. Thought that was very well done.
I agree 100%! That was a serious turning point in the story, from good to great. Dave's story was probably my favorite part of the tale.
It is a good point that is shown also in the AA meeting. To let something ugly out to be shared demands courage but somehow it is smaller and less hurtful afterwards. In my experience at least.
Was it dave? Was a while since i read it. Have i mixed up the names?
