Chinook is a type of Hop. It provides spicy and piney aromas/flavors.

It can be a sofa in Canada all it wants, but here it's a couch... or sometimes a sofa. But usually a couch.

What? A chinook is a foehn wind.
And in my Canadian home, we have a couch. A sofa is a fancy thing old ladies have to sit on.

Like so many words and phrases here (and elsewhere no doubt), the way a word is pronounced evolves and changes over time. I suspect the French-Canadians (there's quite a few) who came to the U.P. to work in the mines brought the toque with them...and over time as more and more people of other nationalities began to wear them...they also pronounced the word the way they thought it should be...and right or wrong...that is how it stayed. The word Chippewa is a French mispronunciation of Ojibwa...although the Ojibwa have another word for their people that I can't produce here without using a search engine to find a correct spelling...sounds like Ashinawbee...or close but no cigar. But that didn't stop Gordon Lightfoot from using the expression "...the legend lives on from the Chippewa on down..." something something...of the big lake they call Gitchie Gummee...another Indian/Ojibwa expression.

Are you Ojibwa? You seem to be talking about them a lot lately.

Neesy, we say toook here...long o and a T. Maybe, different regions pronouce it differently.
yes - you're right... I did live in Alberta for a few years and it is different - my Dad was French from Quebec so I am going by the way he said it :feel_good: Dang it's cold here now - still no snow yet though!

Never heard of a mouse in a bottle, but my mom did find an insect nest in a bottle, and she did get a free 2-4. Just glad she poured it into a glass, and the room was well lit. (Saw bits floating in the glass, so she looked into the bottle.)
