This is one for the true "completist" out there...
For anyone that may be interested, I have two very good condition copies of King's novel Firestarter in paperback, that are "true" first editions.(1 of 25,000 VS 1 of 2,000,000). One black cover and one white cover.
If you're not familiar with this one, see the article in the Nov 1986 issue of Castle Rock, the Stephen King Newsletter.
I would be willing to consider a trade or sale for the right offer.
Let me know what you all think...
Thanks

I actually have four 1st/1st Firestarter paperbacks. One black, two white and one (white) that has the tag line on the cover that says "By the Author of The Dead Zone and Cujo, where every other 1st/1st ones I've seen only say "By the Author of The Dead Zone". These all are extremely scarce, with an estimated print run of 50,000 total. The 1st/1st editions were part of a boxed set that included The Dead Zone. As far as i know, they were never issued separately.

The number line on the copyright page starts with a "1".

This will probably sound like a dumb question to a lot of you'll. How would I know if I have a first edition of a S.K. book? I've been collecting Stephen King books for years, yard sales, flea markets, etc, but more for the purpose of I just like the different covers that I often find. How would I know if a certain copy is worth something or is a "1st" edition? Thanks for any info.

The main site is your best friend...

StephenKing.com - The Library

Then scroll down to the "Additional Resources" section. It's a start at least; not sure how comprehensive it is.

...I have several First Editions, that I came across by pure dumb luck...never made it an avocation to collect-but the cover idea is kinda cool....but the missus will kill me if I start bringing multiple copies in here...

Thanks John! I am going to have to dig out my Castle Rock Newsletters and review the original article that I found on this subject. It was a great article with neat details about a serious collector trying to find a first edition paper back for Firestater. I'll get back to you when I find it. Thanks Tim

I own all the issues of Castle Rock, but they're filed away where I can't easily access them. I'll be very interested in what the article has to say.

I've never paid attention all these years to editions. My only excuse is not thinking of it. I do have a kind of prize possession, though: a first edition of The Stand. Yay!
