Well, this is unexpected, but I can dig it!

Hi everyone, I don't know about you but I'm not for this at all. The web is ablaze with posts, one half pretty positive and the rest not so much. What's worse, the guys for it are screaming racists at the guys not for it. They're supposed fans who have read the series over 10 times, which I find hard to believe. We want what has murdered us over and over to be done right. Don't we? Many are sure that it wont matter if the role of Roland is played by an African American, but most believe that Stephen created him white, so he must be played by a white actor. I mean everything about Roland was created specifically with Clint Eastwood in mind. And there are many specific parts of the series that reference him being white. Detta going crazy when Roland steps forward into her mind and she realizes he's white, his blue bombardier eyes, Mordred calling him "white daddy." So I'd like to keep Roland as we know him, as he was written. An old school cowboy. They should stay as close to him as they can, or I see this flop before they even started.

I can't say it any better then this.Well stated!

I cannot believe all of the name calling I have seen elsewhere over this whole thing. The word "racist" is being thrown out alot ( elsewhere) and it makes me pretty darn mad.I gotta think the people yelling racist have probably not read the books or else are very afraid of being politically incorrect .I like the guy as an actor ( and eye candy) but not as Roland. No sirree ma'am!

Hmmm, what's the reaction gonna be if they cast a white actor with GREEN eyes?

Or, heaven forbid, brown eyes!

...I can appreciate the humor, but it was a specific and memorable characteristic....it just doesn't hold true to the story if you start manipulating such detail...and yeah, contacts can make them happen....but I have yet to see an ice-blue eyed African American....and please spare me the "other worlds" dirge....:D

Here you go - Black People with Blue Eyes and check out pictures of Vanessa Williams.

A different eye colour is not going to diminish the story.

One person may like their coffee with one sugar and cream and another with two sugars and no cream but the end result is the same.

...indeed, I have always found the green eyed and dark skin combo very alluring....
Yes. Green eyes in general I think are so stunning. I don't see true green eyes often, but when I do, I tend to stare. And for some reason, I see them more in women then men. hmmm, I wonder why that is? I wonder if women tend to get green eyes more often than men?

I used to watch gladiator on uk tv - and there was this cool bloke called sparta or rhino or something grrr like that, anyway he sported the same cool look- very piercing.

But the point is Roland is the (hang on spellcheck) archetypal Marlboro man cowboy in many if not all readers eyes. And i wonder if anybody- ANYBODY had this guy in mind when they fell for Roland. Hell, i doubt if one reader had him as a reincarnation of even Morgan freeman or Sammy J - who can play bad ass mo' fo's In any movie they don a stetson.
