Chex will be releasing a remastered version of their video game series from the 90s, Chex Quest, which spanned 3 entries and came as prizes in their cereal boxes. Like the original copies, the remastered games will come in their cereal boxes, this time as a download code for Steam.
The game series is an iconic piece of the 90s as actually pretty well made for something that came in a cereal box. All the games are kid-friendly parodies of the original Doom games, and somehow turned one of the most iconic and gory first-person shooters of all time into a kids game. The game involves you being an agent of the Cereal federation investigating a planet invaded by Aliens that want to steal and eat cereal, and blasting them with laser guns. It’s become a favorite with both Doom fans and people merely nostalgic for the game back in the 90s.
I’ve played an hour or so of the original and am glad Chex is acknowledging its cult following by giving it a fresh coat of paint. The games are very charming in their cartoonish parody of a game about journeying into hell to slaughter the demons that killed your pet rabbit, and instead somehow making it about zapping non-lethal lasers at aliens that want to steal your cereal.
