Actually, it appears that it was both.

LOL. My opinion of Ralph Nader: 2000 Election - Good, Corvair - Bad.Corvair, and it was doomed even after they fixed the major problem that Nader pointed out. I believe the title of the book was Unsafe At Any Speed.
Oh yeah... very nice!I added leather seats and a couple other modifications:

Yup, Unsafe At Any Speed doomed the Covair. That's probably why I got it for $125 in 1973. (Never liked the Corsair styling... might not be correct by that's what I always call the 2nd generation Corvairs)Well, guys, not to be overly contrary, but Unsafe At Any Speed, the Nader book that doomed the Corsair, was published in 1965.
The Pinto was released by Ford in 1971.

If you didn’t mind not taking turns very fast, staying off bumpy roads, the sloppy steering, having to use a slide-rule to determine different tire pressures, no keys necessary to operate it, no safety features, a heater that took a half hour to start pumping out any heat, putting a quart of oil in every week, and having to put a brick under two tires when parked on an incline, the Corvair was a great car.
And girls sometimes even bought into the line that someone stole the engine when you went "parking."
LOL. And I would buy one tomorrow if I had money to burn.I had no idea about the Corvair. I just remember grumblings at the time about Nader killing "that sweet little car." Now it's sounding more like a friend of mine who had an MG convertible who described it as a nice car, except for everything. When he finally got a Miata, he said, "I didn't realize that you could buy a two-seater convertible that works."
You and I are the typo team. I called it the Corsair, which was actually a fighter plane used by the Marines in the Pacific in WWII. You called it the Covair, which I believe is the oxygen contained above the surface of a small bay. Between us, we've almost got the name of a car.
Oh, I wasn't doubting the corvair and the book part grandpa, I just remembered him with the Pinto stuff. I think unsafe cars of all years seemed to be his cause.Well, guys, not to be overly contrary, but Unsafe At Any Speed, the Nader book that doomed the Corsair, was published in 1965.

Best driving song, ever! (IMHO anyway).
Mine too. I bellow. It's not pretty.
...not being rude, but I gotta bet the rims & tires rival the car in value....Both in the picture are ours.
