Molasses is very southern so I don't know why I never cook with it. Yes, I love peanut butter and molasses sandwiches with chili. That was a staple in elementary school. Usually, when I'm cooking dry beans, I don't like to season them with anything but salt. I want the flavor to be as natural to that particular bean as possible. Once in a while I may toss in an onion.
You ever have sorghum with biscuits down your way Doc? We grew up on it southern Arkansas but I don’t see it much up here. We used to have a famous little store and mill down in Polk County Arkansas called “Lum and Abners” sorghum. Best stuff a buscuit ever sopped up...lol

Lum &Abner
This store was about 20 miles from my original home town. You could buy freshly made sorghum right off the shelf.

Oh yeah, it's the best. My grandfather made sure we had it on the table with our breakfast biscuits. I haven't had any since I was a kid but I also remember my grandfather bought fresh bacon from a friend that butchered hogs. Incredible.

I'm from Lonoke County, AR. How far "up" did you move from God's State? Lol
You ever run into Barry Seal down in Polk County......Mena way? I watched the movie about him the other day. And yes, I've sopped up anything good including sorghum. I think I have some in the pantry, now.

I admit, I started this as a bit of a joke. But, other than green beans, I never really considered beans as having taste. Maybe Lima beans....but even then, Either they are in soup or covered in butter. Maybe I’ll have to actually try eating them naked.
