I broke with tradition and read The Deep Blue Goodby this January. I have Nightmare in Pink on my Kindle that I'm saving.

I'd like to get the book of letters between John. D and Dan Rowen from Laugh In. It's supposed to be a great read.

A Friendship: The Letters of Dan Rowan and John D. MacDonald 1967-1974 by Dan Rowan

Creed, McDonald gets murky towards the end. Was there really a lost book called A Black Border For McGee, where according to legend, Travis died? Does it exist? I hope so. Oh. And in the film 'Darker Than Amber', William Smith claims Rod Taylor (as Travis McGee) tried to kill him! And they in reality beat the crap out of each other!! True or not, it may be the most brutal fight scene ever filmed. Smith claimed the bottle he hit Taylor with was real. I can't imagine Will Smith & Jared Lito doing this.

The Consummata - Mickey Spillane and Max Allan Collins

This is one of several unfinished books that Mickey Spillane gave to Max Allan Collins to finish. This is the first one that I've read and I think it's very good so far. This is a sequel to the 1967 Spillane book, The Delta Factor (which I have not read). I picked this up for two reasons that don't usually disappoint me, it's a Hard Case Crime book and Max Allan Collins' name is on it. After I'm done with this one, I think I'll want to read some more of these (I think there are 7 or 8 of them).

I days ago found a John D. McDonald collection called Shades of Travis McGee. At a local thrift shop! But being fans of McDonald's protégé, Stephen King, myself and all of you know that you never read Travis McGee in the winter or spring. It just is not done. Only in summer. My bathroom book is an old Robert Mitchum biography I found.

It's about all I'm reading really. Oh, a work friend, I guess he's my friend, he bought me a couple of huge hard-back horror anthologies at Barnes & Noble! I was pretty shocked, since I barely know him, but we had spoken about horror fiction a few times. I hope they were cheap. He has a gf, so he's not trying to get into my pants! Does he think I am more important than I really am? But in the break room I've been lauding him with thank yous & complements! The books are nice collections of mostly older horror. Mart Shelly's Frankenstein is in one. This guy is a tall thin Icabod Crane drink of water! Do I need to buy him something now? I am out of my depth here.
Hmmm, I don't really know what to tell you. Maybe get him a gift card with something like $10 on it. You didn't ask for those books, he just did it as a token of friendship. Maybe he really wants to just be your friend?

I'm really enjoying re-reading the Discworld books. With amazon, if you bought a hard copy of certain books (publisher's decision, I guess) you can get a digital copy for 1.99 so I've been trying to get them all on Kindle. I just finished Night Watch and reading The Discworld Companion as my "popcorn" book.

Thinking of heading in another direction for a bit, though. Got a free copy of The Count of Monte Christo (some of you were discussing it) so I might read that next. Or maybe The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (got all 3 books for 1.99 last year). I'm also re-reading It.

I like to juggle ;)

I loved The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. The next two books in the original trilogy weren't as good, in my opinion. I haven't checked out the 4th book in the series.

Thanks. I'd heard that before about the 2nd and 3rd books. Didn't know there was a 4th.
The 2nd and 3rd books are still worth a read, they just don't reach the level of the 1st.

The 4th book was released a couple years ago. It was written by a different author, as Stieg Larsson had passed away. If I'm remembering correctly, the new author used Larsson's notes while writing it. Has anyone here read it yet?

The Consultant - Bentley Little (one of my CD grab bag purchases)

A novel about a tech company that's having problems and hires a consultant firm to straighten things out. As well as being a dandy horror novel, the novel is also a humorous commentary about Big Brother at the office. Bentley also ridicules the consulting industry. I'm about 150 pages in and am having a lot of fun with this one.

Yeah. Big disappointment in my opinion. The authors name is David Lagercrantz. He was commissioned by the brother and father of Larsson to milk some money out of the characters. He has also written a fifth book in the series which i probably wont read. His partner, the woman Larsson lived together with for many years was very much against it (she had more than a finger in Larssons writing) but was neglected. I agree the first is best, the second is a little let down while it gets better again in the third though not as good as the first.

It's been a long time, but I remember really liking all 3 and I have the 4th in my TBR pile which I will eventually read. And just seeing that he has written a 5th, yep, I'll probably read that too.

I started Hominids by Robert Sawyer. An SF novel in the Asimov school where a Neanderthal drops through a wormhole or something and come out again at the same time but in a parallell universe. A universe where Homo Sapiens, these primitive hominids hasd survived. He himself is a wellknown physicist in his universe where the Neanderthals survived and the Sapiens died out. Started good. He knows his science, both physics and anthropology. We'll see what happens. The problem with premises like these is how to get a good ending.
