So I just finished reading The Twelve. It was okay. I don't know why this book isn't better. It's got a great premise when you get down to it, but somehow/someway it just doesn't gel the way it should. I liked The Passage much better.Started The Twelve, the second in Justin Cronin's vampire trilogy. Only read about the first 30 pages but found myself doing abit of skimming here and there. I just want to get to the story folks! Don't bog me down with mundane descriptions of crap.....
Th
That's some weird stuff, that Jaqueline Carey stuff. Lotta masochism or something. Gave it a try once, meh...not my cup of meat.
But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here, all the pigeons gonna run to him...
Sorry, radio.
I don't get the Eskimo reference...
Im not much into the masochism stuff either... in real life or in a book! But I paid $8 for the book so I'm darn well gonna read it!
I like Margaret Atwood a lot. It has been a while since I read any of her stuff so it's hard to figure out what to recommend. I think I was about 19 years old when I first read her stuff (Had to read a book called "Surfacing" as required reading for a course I was taking).I haven't read any Margaret Atwood...should I?
I just recently joined two clubs, one meets in person and the other is on FB. So far we have read All The Light We Cannot See, which I loved b/c i love WW@ Historical Fiction. The other book we have read so far is"Where'd You Go, Bernadette." That was a fast easy read that I only gave 3 stars on Goodreads.
The next book so far is "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." I read this in High School and remember enjoying it. I am going to re-read since that was quite a long time ago!!
If you want to read a really really good book club type book I would suggest "The Power of One." That may be my all time fav book ever.
He is quoting from an old song on the radio: The Mighty Quinn
This song is from what? 1968? (Sorry - must have had a flash-back).You win the brass cigar. Thanx fer playin.

I agree. And I'd add The Penelopiad and Alias Grace.Re Atwood.... She definitely deserves to be read. Start with The Handmaids Tale and if you like that go on with the Oryx and Crake trilogy.
I read it and liked it. The book gets pretty scientific, though. I noticed they cut out most of the technical stuff in the movie. It's definitely worth a read.Has anyone read The Martian on which the movie of the same name was based? I liked the movie and was wondering if the book was worth a read.

I liked Station Eleven--didn't love it, but I liked it. End-of-the-world Shakespeare was interesting One storyline felt very shoehorned in, though. I'd be interested to hear what you think when you're finished!I've recently started "Station Eleven" by Emily St. John Mandel. It's a novel set in a world where a flu pandemic has wiped out most of civilisation. I'm also working through "Emma" by Jane Austen. I'm really struggling with it though. The 200 year old style of writing is understandably very different to the modern novels I'm used to where the plot zips along, it's very very long winded. I'd like to finish it but not sure I have the patience.

Emma is pretty funny, once you adapt to the language. If you want the basics of the story (what's most important), watch the movie Clueless It's based on Emma and in its situations and relationships draws heavily from the book.
I forgot to mention that our expert on Atwood is you. Havent read the ones you mentioned actually.I agree. And I'd add The Penelopiad and Alias Grace.
Interesting choice, let me know how you like it. The description makes it sound a bit sappy for my taste...but you never know!
I've not read any by him! So many writers I have to try out. I've been looking for Sarah Pinborough's books around here--did you like the ones you've read?I forgot to mention that our expert on Atwood is you. Havent read the ones you mentioned actually.
Since you seem to like historical novels..... I'm thinking of reading some Gore Vidal. Only read Creation before by him but have been considering Burr, Lincoln, 1876 and Empire. Are they to be recommended? Or any others by him?
Have you read one of Atwood's books called "The Edible Woman"? That was a different one.I've not read any by him! So many writers I have to try out. I've been looking for Sarah Pinborough's books around here--did you like the ones you've read?
