So I will be in the middle of the ocean next week for a good 7 days, which means I get to do a bit of reading. I just started Stranger in a Strange Land and hope to have it finished or at least most of it finished by the time I board my ship.

Which leads me to the question, what should I read on board?

I've narrowed it down to three contenders...

If it helps, my last cruise I read Needful Things and really loved it. Last year I read Night Shift on the beach and thoroughly enjoyed it.

And I'd enjoy a brief explanation for your choice.

(For fairness, the books are arranged in alphabetical/publishing order)

I say The Stand because it is nice and long, so you shouldn't finish it too quickly. :)

I'd pick "The Shining" just because I'd enjoy trying to find the similarities in being trapped on a boat at sea & A vacant Hotel. Just pretend the other passengers are ghosts.

Enjoy your cruise, I haven't been on one since 2006. Very high on my "Things to do when your no longer broke" list.

You might want to consider bringing Skeleton Crew with you so you have a copy of Survivor Type to reference in case you find yourself on a desert island all alone..........

'Salem's Lot, because out of those three it's my favorite (and one of my favorite SK books of all time) with The Stand being one of my least favorite SK books. As for The Shining, I like it but I don't love it.

the Stand and The Shining would be my choices. But narrowing it down would be hard.

    I vote for The Stand.
Because you're going on "Trips" and you've got a "Captain"!
So what more could you want?

First pick- The Stand. Enjoy, it's done in parts so you can take a break, walk around the decks. Long book too.
Second pick- The Shining- perfect for a cruise. Excellent character development.

I chose The Stand. It can be read in parts - and I doubt you'll finish it on your cruise, to be honest. Just make sure you have the unabridged version.

'Salem's Lot is best saved for fall weather when there's a snap in the air and the nights are becoming shorter.

one of my all time favorites..... though you know, Skeleton Crew is a great choice because when i'm traveling, i enjoy shorter stories that i can read at my leisure.
