Got any tips regarding booking flights? The time is ticking down for me to book our flights for the big KingKon coming up this summer. Still leaning towards flying from here to Toronto, then renting a big comfortable vehicle so we can drive the 600 miles to Maine.

p.s. Good luck to your daughter in law and hopefully the surgery will be just what she needs to feel better!

Not really. Most of my bookings are done by the companies who send me to this stuff. I have my premium status with United, so that's where I do most of my bookings when I do them on my own, and having premium status helps.

When I'm looking for the cheapest or best scheduled from a host of competitors, I generally see what kayak.com says. These travel sites are annoying, though. But kayak seems to have a great synthesis of what's all available out there.

This DIL thing has put a bit of a crimp in our plans (not to mention the bathroom remodel). But I'm seeing if I can nudge Grandma to a summer trip to New England this year.

I'll weigh in on this that using Kayak (or expedia or anyone else) is great for comparing prices but book directly with the airline, if possible. You can usually get the same price and then you'll get better service from the airline, if something goes wrong (delays, cancellations, etc). Folks who book through third party sites are directed to take their issues up with that company in the event of a problem; the airlines only help the folks who booked with them directly. Same goes for hotels, by the way.

Holy Crap - just checked out kayak and if we book with Westjet it is 614 bucks each! Ouch
(this is just one way, I think) - maybe I should go through a travel company or CAA

Thanks for the info by the way

That is exactly right. Plus when you book directly with the airline, if you do have FF benefits (such as free upgrades or selecting your seat), it's a much cleaner process when working directly with them.

My return flight tomorrow was done on company miles benefits. I'm a little annoyed. I'll still get my premium benefits - and when you traveling across one of the ponds, that becomes huge - but I can't do things ahead of time, and there's no miles that I'm awarded. Oh, poor me, I know. But still, when you're traveling on planes and through airports for 20-plus hours, these things take on added value and importance.

Today I slept in until 8:30 a.m. then suddenly woke up, realizing I had signed up for a one hour info session. I managed to get there by 10 a.m. and it turned out I was the only one who showed up! (It was from 10 to 11 a.m.)

The course was taught by a nurse and an occupational therapist and they went ahead and did it anyway, even with just one student (me).

It was really good - they also did a nice meditation session at the end which was very relaxing and I got a lot of information about resources available in our community.

Oh yes - topic was How to Get a Good Night's Sleep or How to Improve Your Sleep.

Next week's topic is Healthy Gut and the week after that is Decluttering Your Home - these courses are designed to meet the needs of older adults.

Then I took Andy's Durango to a car wash called The Chamois and got the deluxe Gold wash and the clear coat as a bonus. His truck looks like new - it's black and very shiny.

This is just a random pic from the internet but it looks similar to this (it's a 2003).

Every time I see a court show like 'Judge Judy' - seems every other person is not working and collecting disability. I don't get it.
Some of the stuff on those shows is complete, made up crap. They have a 'type', and the shows play to that.

Alternately, some of the people might be on SSI disability, which is supposedly easier to get than regular SS disability. It drove me crazy to think that if my mom was an alcoholic or drug addict, she would have had an easier time getting help than because she has a life threatening condition.

Some might also be on state disability or private disability, too. All I know is that regular SS disability is damn hard to get.

Problem is - work is a little more than an hour away. They are all fine there, right on the snow/rain line. I crossed it on the way home yesterday. It was odd. They just got rain - a dusting, if anything. Hope they understand.
Suggest they ck the weather channel for details in your area. See what their suggestion would be about attempting to get to work today. If you can shovel out, or some kind person helps, then possible work. Late, but there .
