As promised, here's an update to my book signing!:)

First off, I had a blast and am so glad I stepped out of my rut and decided to go!!

Backstory: Tim Dorsey is a former writer for Tampa Tribune. He started in the late 90s writing a book about Florida, the crazy folks that live there and weird things that happen there, and a somewhat insane main character, Serge A. Storms. His first book was called Florida Roadkill. He's just published his 22 book, No Sunscreen for the Dead. His hero, Serge, has become a cult hit and is my own personal favorite homicidal maniac. Seriously, he comes up with ways to kill those jerks that just annoy the bleep out of you, that are as hilarious as they are gruesome. fljoe0 and Spideyman - have either of you read his books?

Anyway, the venue was a small, independent bookstore near my office. I had texted a friend who also reads his books and she agreed to meet me at the store. Seating was supposed to start at 5:45, and I met her there around 5:30. I checked in and got my book, (Yay!) and had noticed that the author was there, just kind of hanging out in the corner. Right about the time I was finishing up, he grabbed a sharpie and announced that he could go ahead and start signing if anyone was ready. Um, yes, please!

Hooray!! I got a handshake, my book signed and got to tell him a Coleman near-encounter story all before 5:45! :D

He continued to sign as folks came in. It was a small crowd, maybe 30-40 people. Once everyone was there, he started by taking questions for about 35 minutes, then he told a few stories and just interacted with us. So cool!!

He wrapped up just about 7:15, took a few crowd pics, signed a few more things, took a couple of pictures and it was over far too soon!

I could spend hours just listening to him talk. He's just a regular guy who happens to be a great story teller and has been lucky enough to get those stories published. If you haven't read any of his work, I highly recommend you give him a try.
….so pleased you enjoyed it!!!!...and you look great honey.....

I'm planning on turning it in on Tuesday, because that would be a two week notice.
It's in the car because depending on how things shake out, I'm prepared to walk any time now. All the other girls are waiting on me , and will follow suit. For some reason, they think I'm the strong one .
….by strong, you mean PITA....right?...….

I looked at an episode (No. 2) of the Adventures of Superman starring George Reeves. Jimmy Olson has gone up to Moose Island in Maine to visit his Aunt who he hasn't seen since he's been a little kid. Anyway, he has to call Clark Kent. It is called The Haunted LIghthouse. I must admit, even though I like the Batman series better with Adam West, that the Superman series is beautifully made. They apparently shot this episode at the RKO back-lot in California and used stock footage for showing parts of Maine.

I LOVED the original Batman series and comic strip! I refuse to watch the movies. I wish they hadn't ruined it. The Superman movies, at least those I saw, were much better. Adam West came from the town down the road and I have pictures both of his home in town and the ranch where he lived out of town. Starting right after he died there is an Adam West day in town on his birthday.

He came out to Australia back around 1979/80 and I got his autograph. The Batmobile was going around the shopping malls on display, I think I saw it in Bondi Junction. I watched recently a documentary about the musician, Kurt Cobain, and he came from a place called Aberdeen in Washington. I can't remember, but I remember I think someone else I was reading about came from Washington. I don't know if they ruined it, the new Batman movies with Bale, but they made it darker. I like the Batman animated series made in 1992. It is film-nourish, it is strange that a guy like Adam West still lived in his home town even after being in Hollywood or L.A. I'm not a Superman fan(even though I watched all the episodes as a kid) but looking at the episodes, they are beatifully photographed. I watched an episode of Dragnet recently and it looked terrible, all grainy and fuzzy.

Batman TAS is one of the best animated series out there imo, it manages to be appropriate for children and yet have complex, layered plots, heavy subjects, and many well rounded characters. I particularly remember the first episode, “On Leather Wings”, classic opening episode featuring my favorite Batman villain of all time. I would like to see it have news episodes featuring newer or lesser known Batman villains, like Professor Pyg, The Court of Owls, or Rat-Catcher.

Was it Dragnet 1967 or the earlier series? Some classic series including Dragnet 1967 have been beautifully restored and look brand new, but there are some crummy old copies around. I bought a Monty Python boxed set and was very disappointed, it looks like it was directly transferred off scratched old 16 mm prints. I happen to know that Monty Python is one of the series where they managed to convince the network not to erase the original tapes so those should still be around and restorable.

Well, I didn't turn in my resignation yesterday, but the meeting was a very uncomfortable and tense hour for all of us. They decided to have it during lunch at the Mexican restaurant nearby. We all figured that was to try to deter anyone making a scene about upcoming changes. We were informed that they will be closing one side of the salon, moving the two stylists who occupy the space over to the main side, and letting the nail tech go. They had only notified the two stylists of the decision the night before....via text message. Needless to say, no one is happy at this point. One of the girls asked if they were going to be installing extra shampoo bowls because there are currently only 3 on our side of the salon, and there will be 9 stylists using them. The answer was a very blunt and definitive 'no'.
One of the girls asked if closing the other side would mean a reduction in rent.......and that's when the sh*t show happened.
I just sat there quietly eating some very delicious rice and nodding my head.
