I got back from India recently with some leftover gastric anomaly. Eating in the hotel was fine. The food was amazing, and I mean that (the best part of that trip, actually). But the last night out, I ate out in the economy, and that was a mistake. And less than 24 hours before getting on the plane too. Ugh.

A friend of mine whose husband is a pilot told me it was well-known and universally experienced in the pilot community. They call it "Delhi belly."

That got an irritating refrain in my head. Sung to the tune of that awful "Wooly Bully" by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs.

Had some biryani
Tasted oh so good
Now I'm waiting to board
And my guts are fluid

Actually, this makes far more sense than the original song.

It doesn't just happen in India - I got a bad case of that in 1995 in Pakistan - it was horrible and I lost 10 pounds. Took a long time to clear up on its own once I returned to Canada.
