Hello all. I've been a fan of SK since the first book of his I read over 20 years ago (It). Since then, I've been a big fan and Constant Reader, and I continue to enlarge my collection of his books. One question I've never been able to find a good answer to is the one I asked above - where should a Stephen King virgin start reading his books? My girlfriend has decided to come to the dark side, and asked me where she should start. Obviously, I want her to read the Dark Tower series, but I feel like she should read the other novels related to it and the characters in it first, so that as she meets the characters throughout the series, she'll know who they are. Many of his books aren't related to the Dark Tower series, and while they are related to other books (Rose Madder and Gerald's Game, for instance) they could be read any time. What are your thoughts on this? Would you suggest she read the other books first (Salem's Lot, Hearts in Atlantis, The Stand, etc) or should she dive right into Roland's world? The best idea I've been able to come up with is that she read his books related to the Dark Tower story or characters in chronological order of when they were published, leaving the actual series for the end, and then continuing on with reading anything else by him she likes. Mr. King, if you happen to see thread, would you be so kind as to offer your opinion? Thanks in advance.
