17) Nosferatu-original. Max Schreck was very creepy, and definitely the best part of this movie.

18) Freaks-Tod Browning knocked it out of the park with this one. Not really scary--it's more of a betrayal/murder movie--I think it qualifies because it freaked people out so very much when it was originally released.

19) Shadow of the Vampire-Finally made it through this one. I still didn't love it, but the leads were very good.
Glad to hear you made it through. Shadow isn't a rip roarer by any means, but I liked the two back to back, it made it interesting and fun.

I liked Shadow not for its capacity to scare, which it didn't do to me, but for its utter uniqueness. The like the concept of the movie - a movie about the making of an existing movie, and the focus on the actor Max Schreck as at best odd and at worst monstrous.

12. The Exorcism Of Emily Rose (2005)

Netflix had this labeled as horror but it is really more courtroom drama than horror. There should have been more exorcism and less courtroom. I didn’t find the courtroom scenes all that riveting or believable. The flashbacks to the Emily story were good but there wasn’t enough of that. 4/10

I have that on DVD. Think I've only seen it once. I don't remember much, but I recall thinking that I'd rather be watching The Exorcist.

13.) The Frozen Ground (2013)
This was more of a thriller but since it is based on true events, that makes it a "horror" story! It was very upsetting. Good acting-it disturbs me how well John Cusack can play evil and creepy (reminded me of The Paperboy).

I saw this one as well. First movie in a while that I've seen Nicholas Cage in that I could tolerate.

13. Paranormal Activity 4 (2012) I've seen all of Paranormal movies and I didn't think this one was very good. I spent the whole movie waiting to be frightened but it never happened. Paranormal 5 is coming out in 2016. I hope it will recapture the scary atmosphere of the first one but I somehow doubt that will be the case.

I don't really have a favorite scene from this movie to display so I thought I'd show a freaky one from Paranormal 3. :smile2:

12. Let Me In. Another one from my collection of favorite horror movies. Showed it to my friend this time, he liked it, too. I think it is one of the best vampire movies, not so classical-style vampires, more like modern ones, but that's what I like. And sure, I like Chloe Moretz. She is just so cute!

I liked that one, but preferred the Swedish original (aside from the ghastly dubbing). Both are very good, though!

13. Resolution (FTV)
A well-meaning friend locks up his crack-addicted pal in an isolated house in order to force him to go sober, but he soon begins finding various types of old media that all seem to point to their own bad ending. The sense of unease builds and builds as he encounters threatening drug dealers, resentful Native Americans, UFO cultists, and a hermit scientist, all who only add to the layers of mystery and richness of the atmosphere. We're all familiar with the creepy "cabin in the woods" trope, but Resolution does something very different with the premise, turning the whole concept of storytelling through media into an enigma in itself. If this doesn't feel like a horror movie, it's because it's not following formula, and the scares are more along the lines of creeping dread and a weird unease rather than overt jumps. The main characters are interesting and their flawed friendship feels very real, which makes the strangeness around them seem all the more strange. If you like movies that make you think about what's going on (Memento, Primer, etc.) while still being entertaining, give "Resolution" a try. Available on Netflix streaming.

4 out of 5 stars.

I watched this one last year during the challenge and loved it. Your description is spot on.

I haven't seen the remake, yet, but I liked the original very much. It was subtle and creepy terror.

I FINALLY finished Dead of Night (#19, I think)! Thanks for the rec Dana Jean and blunthead . I quite enjoyed it :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it!

14. The Strange and Deadly Occurence -- 1974 -- Robert Stack and Vera Miles. Yeah, a little bit creepy but nothing to get too excited about.

13. Nightmare In Wax -- 1969 --A familiar face in Cameron Mitchell. Reminiscent somewhat of House of Wax starring Vincent Price, this is an okay story. Changed just enough to make it different, but totally 60s cheese.
12. The Invitation --2003 -- Okay, this one is on Netflix. I understood the premise of the film. But, I'm thinking I dozed off or something. I just didn't think their secrets were that well revealed, connected and WTH? Someone watch this one and then come tell me exactly what was going on. A couple I could figure out, but a couple -- I'm still scratching my head.
11. Asylum -- 1972 -- Another in the anthology grouping. Pretty good.
10. House on Haunted Hill -- 1959 -- Vincent Price -- Old time standby movie. When that old lady comes gliding in with claws at the ready to scare that girl, man I laugh!
9. House of Evil -- 1978 -- Joanna Pettet and Richard Crenna star in this one. Not that great.
8. Creature from Black Lake -- 1976 --I have been looking for this movie for years! I couldn't remember the name nor could I remember much of the plot, but I kept googling different things -- well, I searched in youtube with different wordings and it would pull up movies and I would scan the list looking for this. And lo and behold, there it was, a still shot I recognized! I saw this when it first came out in the theaters with a friend and we were so scared! And of course, loved the pretty dark haired boy who plays one of the main characters. Rewatching it, oh man, not so great. Not horrible, but very b flicky. In checking out the two lead characters, both of them have died young. so sad. Jack Elam is in this -- such a great character actor. One of the best things about this movie is the one character's name -- Pawhoo. :smile2:
7. Dr. Terror's House of Horrors -- 1965 --This is another British anthology I like. Cushing, Donald Sutherland and familiar faces throughout.
6. Monster Club-- 1981-- not that great, but fun.
5. Vault of Horror -- 1973 -- One of my favorite of the old British groupings.
4. The House that Dripped Blood -- 1971 -- Staying true to the British anthologies. Enjoyed.
3. Torture Garden -- 1967 -- thanks for the heads up on this one skimom2 . I absolutely love old British anthology movies. I thought I'dd seen them all. Not the best in genre, but entertaining. Will be watching the house that dripped blood for tomorrow--another one I haven't seen!
2. John Dies In The End -- 2012 -- Very weird little movie.
1. The Legend of Hell House -- 1973 -- with Roddy McDowall. I don't think I need to say anything else.

14. Scream 2 (1997) I had fun watching this film! I'd seen the original but never any of the sequels. I was expecting the movie to be lame just because it WAS a sequel but I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be good. Now I want to see Scream 3 and Scream 4.
