...thanks man, I will re-visit at a future time...I was a much younger man when I attempted to read her, and that may have led to my stand-offishness....
My only complaint about her books is the characters are pretty sex-obsessed. And by that, I mean it's one small step away from porno at times. Her writing doesn't get like that until One On One, though.

Raining today, has been a lot. I rather like it, like reading on rainy summer days (don't care for no Pena Coladas, nope), rainy summer nights (still technically spring, but I don't technically care). 'Twas a stormy early evening I first read DRACULA, just got to the part of the Demeter's log when the storm reached its peak of fury, matching the weather of the novel as that derelict ship struck ground at Whitby harbor--a corpse lashed across the helm, aye...

Perfect weather for reading my beloved dormouse Mary's original draft of FRANKENSTEIN, aye (again). Perhaps the very heavens shall cast their fury upon my head as I lose myself in The Modern Prometheus, send bolts of lightening to quicken my pulse and all that sort of rot. (Insert necessary tongue-rolling when reading aloud).

Dig up my old dog Spot, ayuh, take em up yonder rud afore alla said and done.

Tabby is a phenomenal author, but Small World is definitely a first novel. Not bad (I liked it a good deal), just sort of rough.

The thing to know about Tabitha's body of work is most of them make up a series set in Nodd's Ridge, ME., sort of her version of her husband's Castle Rock or Derry. However, unlike her husband's works it is vital that you read Tabby's in chronological order. Things won't make sense if you don't. The order those books are in are as follows:
Caretakers
The Trap
Pearl
One on One
The Book of Reuben

Of those, Pearl is definitely my favorite but I liked them all. I've yet to read Survivor, am hopefully going to do it this month.

Is Survivor part of the same series?

...I need to buy a copy of that...it was one of my favorite flicks as a kid....

The Omega Man; great movie. Remember seeing it at the movies. Mentioned it to several people over the years and they never
heard of it. Remember too, it scared the crap out of me, but that was before I started reading SK; which would happen about 4 years
later with Salem's Lot.

Thanks; didn't know there was a series. The list is very helpful too.

What about you, Kurben? I'm thinkin yer my only hope here, bubba.

Speaking of Dracula.... I have a book on my TBR-pile called Anno Dracula by Tim Newman. Taking place in 1888 where Queen Victoria has just remarried. Her spouse is Count Dracula. It is a kind of mix between Gothic hooror, alternative world and political intrigues with some romance thrown in to spice it up. There is also a murderer stalking the alleys of whitechapel but he is called The Silver Knife. I guess it is the alternate worlds versaion of Jack the Ripper. Anyone of you read it? Just sniffed it so cant say if its good or bad but i do think it sounds interesting.

Excellent idea, Danie!

I haven't read I Am Legend, but I did love the movie.

I have Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Middlesex in my pile to TBR. I'd like some opinions. Saw them at the thrift store and bought because they've been bestsellers, but I know that doesn't really speak for the quality of the book.

I really liked Miss Perigrine's Home... I thought the way he incorporated the old photos was cool.

Great thread!!!

I have several books on my TBR list:

George RR Martin- A Game of Thrones
Tabitha King- Survivor
The Divergent trilogy

.....some among many....

I liked the first Divergent book. The second one was okay but I didn't even start the third one because I heard it was not very good. And I didn't care enough about the characters to see what happened to them.

I can't remember if I read that or I just wanted to read it--lol! If I read it, it didn't make much of an impression :D

Oh, dear Sir, I was intrigued so I looked up the title and found that it is a series and the author was Kim Newman and that the series has been around for awhile. The Wiki thingy describes the series as you did, alternate worlds version. My sister and I are very excited by your recommendation. THANKS

I liked The Passage, but felt it dragged towards the end to the point the second one held no intrest for me.
I couldn't even finish The Passage. I absolutely LOVED part 1 of the book, and then have never been more bored as I was in the second part. While still in the first part, I went ahead and paid well-earned money to download The Twelve...Aghhhhhhh!:culpability:
