I couldn't even finish The Passage. I absolutely LOVED part 1 of the book, and then have never been more bored as I was in the second part. While still in the first part, I went ahead and paid well-earned money to download The Twelve...Aghhhhhhh!:culpability:

At what point did you not like The Passage? Was it when
the vampires take over?

I personally think the movie is rather bad but the book is actually very good. Probably Richard Mathesons best book. But hes written other classics like the Incredible Shrinking man but i think I am Legend is better.

I love watching Will Smith work out in the movie but it's not as good as the book. I love the book I Am Legend.

Great thread Danie . . I love this thread and will hang out here a lot . . .

Well, they had that whole first part, and then the second part was (I think)
like 100 years later
?
I read about 100 pages into the second part, and .

I've read both The Passage and The Twelve. The Twelve really dragged on in places. I'm going to read the third book, but my expectations aren't very high. Who knows, maybe the trilogy will pick up steam again in Book 3.

Any opinions on David Copperfield? Planning to tackle it (finally) either this month or next.
I thought it was entertaining. I know Great Expectations is the 'money' book for a lot of people, but I found it a little boring. DC has its ups and downs, but the adventures are fun (even when they don't make a lot of logical sense), the characters are bright, and it just chugs along until the end.

I've a bit of two minds when it comes to Dickens.. Great expectations is supposed to be the great book but was a little slow and boring to me. DC and Oliver Twist i enjoyed more. And his, my favourite, great The Pickwick Papers. I've had similar problems with others of his as i ve had with Great Expectations. But i think you enjoy DC as long as youre not expecting everything to make perfect sense in the end. But it is a fun ride if an uneven one.

PICKWICK for me as well, followed closely by Tale o Two Cities. But there's quite a bit of Dickens I haven't read, and probably won't. I look at a big dusty monster like Bleak House and get sleepy just reading the spine.

I hear you. Agreed upon Tale of Two Cities. I never read Bleak House or Nicholas Nickelby or Little Dorrit or Hard Times.... Perhaps they are masterpieces???? But everyone should read his A Christmas Carol. Lovely story.

Great Expectations was boring. I loved A Tale of Two Cities. I cried in the end. A Christmas Carol is just a classic. I'm pretty sure I've read DC and OT, but don't remember much either way. Need to read The Pickwick Papers.

I just finished "I Am Legend" and thought it was great. It's only 150 pages or so. It has a couple places where it slows down a bit when explaining the science behind the infection. I think those sections could have been trimmed significantly and not had any negative effect on the story. I have noticed when looking at reviews for this novel, the reviews all seem to be love it or hate it kind of reviews. Most of the haters thought it was too slow and not as much of a horror novel as they expected. I loved the ending and how the title was explained in the ending.

So thumbs up from me.

I've got the BBC adaptation of Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman to listen to. That is one of my favourite books and can't wait to listen to the adaptation. Plus it has the late great Christopher Lee in it. I heartily recommend the book if anyone hasn't.

At some point I want to go back and re-read The Alexandria Quartet, by Lawrence Durrell. In the four books, the same story is told but from the points of view of 4 different narrators. The time is before and during WWII and take place in and around the Egyptian city. They are all beautifully written.

I have this book in my TBR pile. I think I started reading American Gods, couldn't get into it, so never read Neverwhere.
