People just don't understand the time and materials it takes to hand make things at home. They always think the pricing is going to be similar to what a store charges. I once quoted a price (no contract, no commitment, only a quote) for a giant cupcake cake to feed 20+ people to a coworker and when I told her the price she got mad at me and from then on gave me the cold shoulder at work. Granted, she was a bit loony to begin with, but c'mon!
Yup. Most everything looks easy and cheap until you try it yourself...or unless you're satisfied with cheap, shoddy construction. Most things in stores are mass produced, and yep, those will be often be cheaper than something done by a human being.

Your baked creations are glorious--your co-worker really missed out.

Here's the one shot I got last night at the school Fall Festival. I'll get more on Monday before he goes out trick or treating.

What a great costume! Your son must be very happy with it as that looks just like the original. Handmade costumes are so much better than the store ones. Even when my kids were at the age to wear costumes, the manufactured ones were really flimsy without the price reflecting that. The handmade costumes will last for years and can be passed along unlike the store-bought ones.

Well... If you're only going to charge $85, I would gladly buy a couple :)

When hubby was welding, I used to make him welding caps (like baseball caps only fitted without the plastic strap and made of sturdy 100% cotton so they could be thrown in the washing machine often). Sometimes other welders would ask him if they could buy caps from me but the dang things took me an entire day to make and nobody in their right mind is going to spend more than $10 on a welding cap lol.

(Pic of a couple caps I made)

Lol! Thanks :) Those were the only two that survived. I had made them for my parents - the ones I made for hubby had gone through the washing machine so often, they were too frayed to keep.

Hats and bow ties are cool! I wish hats would come back into style. I guess I'm a bit of a hat addict too - I even crocheted a cowboy hat lol. I was crocheting a potholder one day and kept thinking, "This could be the top of a hat" and before I knew it, my potholder had become a cowboy hat

I have a bowtie pattern to try out. I love bowties (thanks Tom and hubby). And there is such great fabric out there, prints and such to make some really awesome ones.

Winner for the most incongruous sentence on the SKMB for 2016! :)

Thank you Doc :) On behalf of all the crafters/SK fans on this thread who love a bit of incongruity, I accept the honor :) Within the pages of this thread, you will find lovely stained glass replicas of the picture that hangs over Homer Simpson's couch, a cross-stitched work of art depicting the Tardis wibble wobbling through Van Gogh's Starry Night, diapers with a biker motif, haunted doll houses, and many other wonderful items :)
