I saw a segment on PBS last night about the Texas Medical Center in Houston and how they were functioning. A few years ago, they built an expensive flood wall system around the place and it worked very well. The medical personnel are basically living there right now and the complex is functioning at a remarkable level considering the problems.
Some other hospitals didn't fare as well. Ben Taub, the main trauma hospital, had to evacuate early because they got water in the basement that messed up the electrical system. But the Med Center learned its lesson after Allison -- good to see.
