Okay, all you crafty people, I need some help/advice.
At my new salon, the owner has been buying old dressing tables/vanities for our work stations. She gave me mine yesterday, and it's a bit banged up and needs to be refinished. The salon owner said that I can refinish it as I choose.
I want to do a rough sand to strip the shine and the bad spots, but leave some of the dark stain behind......I was thinking that I would
use a bright sangria paint/water wash and rag wipe it onto the wood, and finish with a dark red stain.
Only thing is......I've never done this before. Will it work?
I would go to General Finishes web site and check into their milk paints. Pinterest also has some really great pins on distressing furniture, antiquing, using wax to mask off certain areas. There is a ton of great tips out there. Also look on youtube.

Here is a technique that shows some dark showing through.

I should have mentioned this... When you spray seal the pictures, don't lay the pictures directly on the newspaper or whatever you're using to protect your work surface. The newspaper will adhear to the picture and you may tear the picture trying to tear the newspaper away. Place the pictures on a box or scrap piece of wood that's a bit smaller than the picture.

Sounds gorgeous! Would you finish with a matte polyurethane?

Daughter and I decided to do a diptych (two paintings that go together) for my parents this year. They are big into birds/birding.
Here is finished product. They will be hung much closer together, but this is as close as I could get on my laundry doors. :cool2:

I am in the process of doing this right now. They are turning out gorgeous! But slow going. I don't have a lot of room, and I have pets, so I have to put the doors in a room where they can dry and not be a danger to my pets. Too cold to put the doors in the garage for them to seal properly, so just doing a few at a time.
Still working on the cabinets. The bones of the cabinet are done and sealed. I am still in the process of staining and sealing the doors. I sort of got sidetracked. I went ahead and painted the sides and insides of the drawers a reddish color that matches my accent wall by the kitchen. And then I ripped out all the old tacky shelf liner and have started painting the INSIDES of all of my cabinets a tannish color that matches the walls.

WOW! What a huge difference that is making. It's taking dark, dingy cabinets and making them bright and airy. Then I put down new shelf liner that looks like faux black leather. It is turning out amazing. THEN, I purchased new hardware pulls and knobs. This is going to be a project that although time intensive has been so worth every minute.

I took an outdated kitchen and just really made it a striking, happy place!

Okay, I have so many projects going, I finally broke down and bought a little book to make notes in so I wouldn't forget to make the car payment. Now if I can just remember to use the book. And then refer to it.

Anyway, this is one of the projects I will be doing soon.

I live in a very small house. If you are familiar with the Tiny House Movement, my house ALMOST qualifies square footage wise as a tiny house. It is your basic, builder grade cheaply built house. I plan on living here till I die. This is my home and I want it nice and creative and full of the things that I look at that give me memories and smiles and peace of mind.

So, to add some ooomph to my basic builder grade doors, this is what I am going to do.
