Oh, they're excellently done in the movie. Ugly and scary and relentless and perfect little monsters. You gotta see it! Meanwhile, I'll be checking out the Bloch stuff.

That's the part of the movie I won't forget! :O_O:

TBH, that is one of my least favorite SK books. I might give the movie a try, though :)

1. From Beyond The Grave (FTV)
Here's all you need to know: Amicus Productions, made in 1974, British anthology horror movie. A creepy antique store, seances, accents, haunted mirrors, Donald Pleasence, girls with big eyes and bigger knives, carved oaken doors, dark sets, crustily made-up ghouls. Get the idea? Not destined to be a classic, but felt as comfortable as putting on an old pair of warm slippers.
3 out of 5 stars.

Screenshots from that one used to terrify me as a child. Where did you find the film? I was under the impression that it was a 'lost' treasure & I'd love to see it!
You're right! Technically, it's still "lost" but the original screenplay survives. Some film editors used stills from the movie (and there are a lot of them), played the original music, and made a kind of slide show. It turned out pretty well. I'm glad people were interested and skillful enough to do it.

October Horror Movies:

1. Carrie (2013)-Netflix just added this. Thought I'd watch it for kicks and giggles. It was ok. Thought it was an unnecessary remake, imo. I thought Chloe Grace Moretz did a fine job as Carrie, though!
I liked it more than I'd anticipated. The original really is iconic, imho due to Brian De Palma's unique direction style, but the remake is very high quality.

Thanks for the info! Didn't know it was on Netflix-going to watch it tonight! =D

No problem! :) Enjoy!

Honestly, I think that was my problem while watching it;-D I love the original, so that I think that hindered my viewing of the remake. The ending of the remake was very cool, though, and I loved how it was done!

2. 28 Weeks Later (2007) Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner

In this sequel to 28 Days Later, no mention of the characters from the previous movie is made but the movie picks up with a different band of survivors 6 months after the previous movie ended. By this time, the government and military have created a large safe zone and are moving uninfected survivors into the safe zone as they make sure the virus has been eliminated from the outer areas and as they work on a cure and start to rebuild London. Of course, something goes terribly wrong and there's a big problem. This movie is different in tone than the first in that there is more action and violence and it’s less moody. But still, it’s a very good flick. The opening scene is great. 7/10

At some point this month I will watch my traditional Halloween season horror flicks. Those would be:

Halloween
The Exorcist
Salem's Lot
Phantasm

I'm still debating if I'm going to go the Coolidge Corner Annual Halloween marathon. It's a 12 hour ordeal. They only tell you the first two movies and the rest are a surprise. The main attractions this year are the Boris Karloff version of Frankenstein and The Lost Boys.

12 hours is a big time commitment. Especially when the movies start at midnight. I'd be stumbling out of the theater at noon on a Sunday. I'd need to go home and hit the hay right after in order to make it to work that Monday. I'd be able to pull that off no sweat 15 years ago. Now, not so much..........

1. Black Forest (2012). Found this movie just accidentally when I was searching for movie where Oliver James recently participated. Turned out to be a pretty decent movie, I loved it. Pretty spooky, too. It is all about fairy-tales. A group of people go to a forest to see the day of summer solstice as a result they get stuck in this forest and soon they realize strange things start happening to them, and all these things come from different fairy-tales. These adult people have to start believing in fairy-tales again... I really loved the story!

And you know, seven dwarfs are not the same anymore;-D This moment was funny and spooky at the same time:0:

2. The Rats Are Coming! The Werewolves Are Here! (1972) Believe me, the title of this movie is much more exciting than the movie itself. The film centers on a family of werewolves who constantly bicker with each other over dumb stuff. All the action occurs in the last ten minutes. I've never seen a horror movie with so much talking… it reminded me of Days of Our Lives.

Agreed. I almost gave up the first time I read it because I was tired of flipping back to read the glossary. As I went on, though, I realized it was all part of forcing you to realize how fundamentally different this world was from our own…and where it was the same. It's a marvelous book.

BTW, I so admire your analogy to some 'art'. I think of it as The Emperor's New Clothes school of art/literature.

The version I read had no glossary (or I was too stupid to find it). So basically I was like :very_confused:.
Luckily before hand I knew the whole thing was written in Nadsat, so I kinda knew what to expect.

I do like the word "droog" though. I call my friends that sometimes. No ultraviolence though.

Speaking of Carrie, my second movie for this marathon was De Palma's original. Second time I've seen it in full, it was brilliant, so I might have to modify my top 20 favourite movies list to put Carrie, A Clockwork Orange and Kubrick's The Shining on there.

I should also mention it does not fill me with confidence for the school prom I have to attend next year :O_O:
