4. House of Dark Shadows. -- Now, I just liked this. Not love, not hate -- just liked. And it was because I loved the TV series so much. I would rush home from school just to catch it. So, this is a childhood like. 3.88 out of 5
Is this the Johnny Depp movie, or the one with Jonathan Frid? I tried to watch the TV show, but I started at the beginning and the 45 year old teenager put me off--lol. Did it get better as the show went on? It's one of my mom's favorites.

I honest to God don't remember much about it except Barnabas, the Quenton and the atmospheric music. Anything spooky on TV in those days was great!

3- Sinister (2012) – Holy crap! First time seeing this one. I am sufficiently creeped out! P.S. I don’t watch other people’s home movies, so there is that going for me!

2015 list:
1- Pet Semetary (1989) – First saw this one in the theater and try to catch it every year. Still scares the pants off me, and it’s a nice bonus to see Mr. King in his cameo.

2- Ghost Voyage (2008) – Oh boy! This was just bad. Acting was bad, special effects were corny. It has an interesting premise but just not what I was hoping for. Oh well. I’m at 2 on day 2 so that’s a good start for me!

I realized I watched my movie last night and still haven't reviewed it here...I'm getting old and forgetful.

3. Poltergeist (2015, in 3D) (FTV)
Pointless remake. We're all familiar with the plot of the 1982 original, and there's really nothing new here, but plenty missing, with so many little things started that are never tied up. The dad's out of work, so what? The mom's an aspiring author, so what? The former owners of the house left a clown doll collection, so what? This is just lazy, sloppy writing, and the same can be said for the directing. It's never close to being scary, and it's obvious everyone's here just to show up to work and collect a paycheck, there is no passion or ownership in this project, like they all know there's no chance of being as good as the original (which had its own minor issues, but became a classic anyway). Poltergeist 2015 isn't the worst horror remake in the world, at its best it's competent, but it's perhaps the most unnecessary. Do yourself a favor and just re-watch the original with Coach and JoBeth Williams.

2 out of 5 stars.

#14) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003 remake) The original 1974 film was my favorite.. if I were to rate them 1974 (5 stars) 2003 (2 stars) .. the reason I don't care as much for the remake is the original was really the first 'slasher-scare the hell out of me' movie I think I ever saw. Classic to me.. so any 're-make' would have a long way to go to be better to me. They changed the story line in the remake... like the hitchhiker in the original was a crazy family member of leatherface, the hitchhiker in the remake is a victim. I still like the movie.. just hard to top a classic. I do love the soundtrack in the remake tho... lol

7.) Cursed (2005). Oh my, this was bad! The visual/special effects were laughable. But, it's always a pleasure to see Christina Ricci's face! :) (Thanks again Leif for the info I needed to continue watching this movie! Ricci is worth it! ;-D ) Being very generous: 1.75/5 stars.

Cursed is a great movie! The only problem with the special effects is the CGI made the wolf look too much like a bear.

I probably went into it with extremely high expectations because of Christina Ricci! I am not an expert film critic (especially of horror movies - I'm a chicken shyte! :( ). I'm happy you enjoyed it more than I did! :)

5) The Blood Lands-(2014) Originally titled 'White Settlers', this is another home invasion movie. British couple moves to Scotland; on the first night in their new home, chaos ensues in the form of pig-masked invaders. Pretty anti-Scottish. It starts well--the woman actually fights back!--but pretty soon has the standard stupid scenes (leaving a weapon by a killer who is merely knocked out, oops! I fell, let's leave a clue so the killers know where I am, etc.). At one point my daughter yelled, "Do these idiots live in a world where horror movies don't exist?!" lol. Better than You're Next (less incoherent screaming of curse words), not as good as The Strangers or They. The acting, cinematography, and music are good, which is nice in a small horror movie. 6/10 (FTV)
