9. The Void (2016)

Mysterious things start happening at an understaffed hospital and then all hell breaks loose. I don't think there is any (or very little) CGI in the movie. The characters are a bit weak but there's plenty of tension. 7/10
Watching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers being beaten 7 - 0 by the Hamilton Tiger Cats - as close to a horror show as we can get tonight.

My 31 in 31 challenge is finally underway. I started with Gerald's Game yesterday and just watched The Bye Bye Man (oops, I wasn't supposed to say that). Gerald's Game was really well done. You should all watch it, if you haven't yet. As for the other, it was a fun watch but nothing really new or special.

7. Goodnight Mommy (FTV)
After an accident leaves their mother's face in bandages, a pair of twin boys no longer trust that their mother is who she says she is. Creepy and disturbing, somber and a bit too languid for its own good, "Goodnight Mommy" is certainly memorable and gets under your skin. It's not just a "creepy twins" horror movie although it was marketed as such, instead it's more of a mood piece with moments that put me in the mind of Terrence Malick or Nicholas Roeg. Towards the end there are some conventionally horrific scenes to endure, along the lines of "Funny Games" meets "The Other" (not "The Others", but "The Other".) Yes, there is a twist but it's telegraphed repeatedly and very early in the plot for anyone who's paying attention, so we're left waiting for the reveal that we already know. But by the time that happens we realize we've been watching a story about a child's denial in the face of life's horrors, and not just a Shyamalan-esque spook show. I also give this one some bonus points for ambition and cinematography. In Austrian German with subtitles.

4 out of 5 stars.

1) Gerald's Game
2) Kingsman: The Golden Circle - Neither Horror nor a Romantic Comedy. (see previous posts :biggrin2: ) But I highly recommend this movie to everyone. It is pee-your-pants funny! The whole theatre was in stitches, we were laughing, shouting, clapping, cheering.. it was such a good movie. Brilliant.

Back to the horror...
1) Gerald's Game
2) Kingsman: The Golden Circle
3) Titanic
- yes I did... uh-huh, I actually did.

11. Battle Royale (2000) This is a dystopian future version. Japanese. A bit reminiscent of Hunger games but not so YA. A school class (40 kids) is randomingly selected (accordingly to a government law), placed on a deserted island and last man standing wins. But they are friends, have known eachother for years and to kill your best friend? And if you kill him/her can you live with yourself? Questions thats got to be answered. For some not an issue, for some very much an issue. Good if not great. Did not take it all the way which i think it should have. 3/5

Siggie's List

1. It (2017)
2. Gerald's Game
3. Death Sentence
(Nick Hume is a mild-mannered executive with a perfect life, until one gruesome night he witnesses something that changes him forever. Transformed by grief, Hume eventually comes to the disturbing conclusion that no length is too great when protecting his family.) (Sorta like Death Wish but with Kevin Bacon.)

4. Krisha
(Krisha returns for Thanksgiving dinner after ten years away from her family, but past demons threaten to ruin the festivities.) (Have mercy. Thanksgiving with family, falling off the wagon and into the drugs. Horrors.)

5. Inside (À l'intérieur original title )
(Four months after the death of her husband, a woman on the brink of motherhood is tormented in her home by a strange woman who wants her unborn baby.) (le Seigneur a pitié-lord have mercy. Blood, blood, blood, gore and more blood. The elevator scene in The Shining didn't have this much blood.)

Thanks for the thread fushingfeef!

4) The Darkness (2016) FTV – 1.5/5 – I simply must learn to trust the Rotten Tomatoes ratings. The most horrifying thing about this movie was the dye job on Kevin Bacon (burgundy with went terribly with his 58 year old skin!)
Family goes on vacation to Grand Canyon. Their autistic son brings back a supernatural hitchhiker. The Regulators/Desperation, anyone?

My list:
1) Stir of Echoes (1999) - 3.5/5

2) Lights Out (2016)FTV - 3/5

3) Nosferatu (1922)FTV – 4/5

4) The Darkness (2016) FTV – 1.5/5

Got started, finally!

1. 1408
Has been a while since I've seen this, and it was creepier than I remembered. Love John Cusack in pretty much everything he does.

2. The Caretaker (2016) ftv
A girl and her boyfriend move home to take care of the girl's grandmother. I thought it was disjointed, several plot lines (clowns, witches ???) that they tried to tie together but didn't really work for me. Had a few suspenseful moments that gave me hope, but this one was just not great.

Sunny's List

1 ~ American Poltergeist

2 ~ Tales of Halloween......I liked it. An anthology of 10 short gruesome tales. Sorta reminded me of the old Friday the 13th, with the cheese factor and bloodshed. 4/5 stars

3 ~ Gerald's Game.....This one was difficult for me. I've never read the book, so have nothing to compare it to. I liked the twist at the end. 3/5 stars because it made me cringe
