Not condoning cat kicking because I absolutely don't, but my mother was attacked by a neighbor's cat when I was little. She opened the door for our cat and the neighbor cat came hissing and spitting in behind him. Huge siamese. Our cat ran under a bed in a guest room and the fat cat paced because he couldn't get to him, growling and spitting the whole time. My mom propped the back door open so the cat could freely leave and coaxed it out of the bedroom and shut the door. She started walking down the hall away from the cat and it jumped her and clung to her leg with it's claws like it was climbing a tree and bit her over and over and over again. She had to beat on it to get it to release. It did, but wouldn't leave the house. My mom just sat on the couch with a bloody towel wrapped around her leg and finally the cat left. I came home to find my mother bloody as all hell. It was awful and she carried the scars until the day she died. She had to go to the hospital.

We knew the neighbors, they loved and pampered that cat and he had accidentally gotten out of their house that day. He wasn't normally an outdoor cat. He loved his family, but was an angry guy towards others.

I LOVE cats and i DO NOT like any abuse at all, but if the cat in this story was doing like this cat did to my mom, I would totally understand the need to protect yourself. Even an adult.

Thats a fair call...and how awful for your mother!!!
I have never heard of such a thing before and think its sounds terrifying!
To me I would assume too, that the cat had been badly treated-though as you point out thats not necessarily the case. I totally agree with whoever asked why as "suspect cat" was allowed near at 7 month old baby.

Absolutely. I was just playing devil's advocate on that and telling you an example where a very beloved family pet just was pissed off! My mom didn't' get in the middle of their fight or anything. She just coaxed him out of the room and closed the door to it so our cat would be safe. She just walked off down the hall as she had propped the back door open so this cat could leave when he felt like it because she could see he was very angry and I guess he didn't appreciate her meddlin'! It was very bad. The family paid for my mother's doctor bills and were very apologetic. They made sure the cat stayed inside from that time on.

But, with this family, they must have known its nature. A cat generally doesn't just go ape sh*t for no reason, so yes, I would have been very leery about letting it around my baby. And, devil's advocate again, did the baby grab its tail? or pull its ears? How old was this baby? I absolutely HATE when children are allowed to mangle pets. And then, if the pet is hurt in the mangling and sort of snaps out, they get punished.

I am so sorry to hear that that happened to your mom. Your neighbors cat most likely discovered himself in unfamiliar territory, fearful already of not being within his own home, perhaps during mating season, and just lost it. No excuse. Your mom suffered greatly.I understand the need for self protection in that case. I've had stray cats who were dumped "come after me". It is part instinct to attack strangers. Have learned to carry a broom when it is "dumping season".
I really think there is more to the cat story with abuse. Watching that cat in the video, it was not attacking the officers or person who was filming it. It actually seemed to seek a way to hide. I do hope it can find a good forever home where it's behavior can be modified.
I've also seen what normally well behaved cats will do when they go to a vet. It amazes me how well the techs can handle them.

Again, I am so sorry your mom had that experience.

Sorry, I didnt mean it to sound like I misunderstood you. My thoughts are quicker than my hands and sometimes my posts come out as a mixture of a bunch of different ideas all thrown in together. Again you poor mum, that is so awful! Did she hate cats forever? Fair or not, I would have!

Oh heck yes, normal cats lose it going to places they don't know. And the vet -- fuhgeddaboudit.

I hope lux gets put in a new home that will understand his needs better. No offense to the owners, but I think they need to focus on the kid and give the cat to a home that will understand it.

Oh, I took no offense at all. I was just further explaining that. Oh No, my mom loved cats always. She never blamed the cat, she chalked it up to the breed and the fact that there was a fight and he was pumped up. He was just being a cat that was a little ticked off.

My mom was attacked by a cat that had never seen a dog before. Tore open her eyelid, created forever scars all over her face, and landed her in the hospital with blood poisoning for over two weeks. She didn't hit the cat. Of course, it wasn't attached to her!

I would beat an animal attacking me as well.

But if you read the story and/or watch the video, both clearly state that the kick came AFTER the scratch, as punishment.

It was totally our fault. We had, like, six dogs and we rescued this cat and we decided to take it from the car into the house by carrying it. Of course the dogs started jumping up and acting crazy. It was pretty bad but it was definitely a learning experience!

And I did not. I didn't want to see it get kicked. (Not sure if they show it or just talk about it.) I think the kid did something to it.

Which it isn't at all. I'm sorry that happened to your mom too. It's very scary that a cat can do so much damage!
It's crazy, right?!?! I was giving my cat a bath once and she ninja-ed me!! If I hadn't been wearing glasses I think I would have lost an eye. Even still there was SO much blood. Sharp little paws!

I think people can forget that they are indeed animals! My cat is the cutest cuddle monkey in the world but I once woke her up from a bad dream and I thought she was going to kill me. It's good to always remember that they can truly hurt us!

We've been sharing our house for the last seventeen years with a tortoise shell cat. In case you don't know, they can be quite temperamental-- they've got "tortitude", as they say. :fat: We've always respected our cat's personality and have never had any problems. I can only imagine how horrible her life would have been if she had ended with up some mean, ignorant family instead of us. The problem is some people don't respect animals. These people think they're in some transcendent class-- they don't view animals as having any worth or rights or dignity compared to human beings.

Oh we had a tortoise shell cat too, whew she had attitude and was mouthy too. She was an indoor/ outdoor cat with only back claws. She lived to be 19 years old, little spit-fire that she was!

I have read about this in the morning... They tell about it even in Russian news! Really, that's kind of funny. Just imagine it, a whole family is scared of one little cat (okay, maybe not so little, but still)! Funny it is. But I feel sorry for the baby... I am afraid for little babies when there are animals in the house, the situation can get pretty unpredictable. I've heard many awful stories about babies dying when a cat came to the crib with a sleeping baby in it and lied on top of their face. That's scary...
