I was looking at popcorn recipes and wondered why so many recipes listed coconut oil as an ingredient as I'd always thought it was one of the "bad" fats. So I searched coconut oil on amazon to read reviews. I was surprised to discover reviewers rated coconut oil as a 5-star skin and hair moisturizer rather than a cooking ingredient. Have any of y'all tried coconut oil as a moisturizer?
I LOVE coconut oil on my hair and skin. I have thick coarse wavy hair and coconut oil keeps the frizzies away. Great on knees and elbows. I don't like using it in cooking as it flavors everything too much. Keep is as a cosmetic.

In your mirror.
You can make your own with kosher salt, almond oil, olive oil, and essential oils (I love peppermint in a salt scrub). The oils won't make you break out because the scrub is mainly salt.

Excellent! Love the peppermint idea.

Hair cut on the agenda tomorrow. I'm thinking about cutting off 4-6 inches. *crosses fingers* (I'll probably cry afterwards.)

Peace.

The good news is that hair grows back.
You can also sub out coconut oil for the olive oil in a salt scrub.
Rosemary or lavender essential oil for peppermint....or find some other essential oil scent you like, like neroli or sandalwood.
I'm italicizing the key words that will annoy Out of Order the most. Heh.

Call me uneducated, but do you just rub the oil on your skin, like straight from the bottle? :question_pig:
Curious, because I hate using lotions because of the way it makes my skin feel all greasy til like the next day, can't stand it! Like, I'd much rather deal with dry skin than feel all greased up. But I'm getting to that age where I'm starting to worry about wrinklys and whatnot... I don't wanna wrinkle yet! But putting oil on seems like it'd be even greasier than lotion...

I don't have any tips of my own really. I'm pretty simplistic myself with the routines nowadays. I use Johnson's No More Tangles shampoo (though they lie, I still have tangles out the wazoo) and Pantene conditioner, no special soaps or anything, just whatever bodywash I pick up, though I tend to stick with vanilla-y scents instead of floral ones. Facewash, I am never satisfied. For awhile I was using Clean & Clear Morning Burst Detoxifying stuff, but it didn't seem to be having an effect one way or the other on my complexion, so I recently switched to Neutrogena All-in-1 Acne Control Daily Scrub. We'll see how it goes. Not picky with makeup either, don't wear much but mascara unless it's one of those 'woohoo we have a babysitter' nights. Perfume is where I get picky. Dior messed up my most adored perfume in the whole wide world by reformulating it for I don't even know what dumb reason :cry_pig: and breaking my heart. Haven't been able to find a signature, perfect me scent since... Since Christmas though, I've been wearing Couture Couture by Juicy Couture, it was a gift, but usually I wear their Viva la Juicy instead. I like that pretty darn well. My only other must have is my jewelry, bracelets and dangly earrings especially! :yes_pig:

All these tips are awesome.

I focus on my neck. Prevent chin/neck wattle. (Someone posted about putting on oil on face and showering/steaming. I do that with my neck )

Has anyone tried the sea salt body scrubs? I tend toward oily skin but I can't use anything too harsh.

Peace.

A friend's mother makes a natural brown sugar scrub (the name she sells it under is Natural Grandmas) that I like better than salt scrubs. My teens like it as a face wash, too--deals with breakouts without drying out their skin. Oil fighting oil sounds counter intuitive, but it works!

Having difficulties with sleeping? Try using Lavender oil on your skin prior to bed time.
A really sweet friend sent me some Lavender body wash and soap during a difficult time a few years back and it was like magic. Helped me sleep and also assisted with anxiety (just the smell of it on my skin, was calming) during some tough stuff.

xkittyx - I put the olive oil on my hands and rub it together and then dab and run lightly on my face - but it's important to splash cold water on your face after the shower to close your pores. If I do this after my post workout shower, all I have to do in the morning is splash my face with water - no add'l washing or moisturizing is necessary. It's called the oil cleanse method -if you google it you'll find more specific info. It's a little different for everyone. You have to find the right balance of oils for you.

I love making my own body scrubs. I love peppermint/rosemary together. Lavender baths are important to me. They help me sleep and calm me down for sure.

Will have to try some coconut oil soon. Was it Autumn Gust who told us about oil pulling a while back? I want to try that.

Use white eyeliner on the bottom inside rim of your eye to add brightness and a youthful, open look.

Yes. And it will take some getting used to...so perhaps the best thing for you is to find an olive oil-based lotion and try that first instead. Everything from Crabtree & Evelyn to Kiss My Face make an olive oil lotion, so maybe going to a trash-and-treasure store like TJ Maxx or Marshall's will yield an olive oil lotion find.

You don't need a cleanser in the morning if you've washed your face well the night before. Using water only in the shower and moving the oil around on your face is good enough, unless you've become really dirty from some chore.

That is my favorite scent--I use lavender soap & a natural lavender mist (when I wear scent at all). Lavender candles, oil, etc. all the time. My kids say they can't smell it without thinking of me (lol), and it really does help for calming kids down. I had a daycare situation with my nieces & my girls when they were little, and using lavender around the house, especially in the afternoon, definitely made a difference in their attention and behavior.
