She never allowed anyone to see her work. The only way it got known was the kid documentarian bought a box of her negatives at an auction, because after she died, her stuff just got donated or thrown away. Once he saw what he had, he started his search.

I do think she had major trust issues, and maybe a little rough with her kids she nannied. But I'm wondering how she kept getting jobs as a nanny if she was so mean?

She was quirky and definitely liked the darker side of life, but not shying away from moments of sweetness and tenderness in her photographs.
Yeah, these are the sentiments I took away from it. That kid went through the negatives meticulously and even interviewed her friends from France, I believe. Wow, I need to watch again.

Has anyone watched the Marlon Brando doc on Showtime? It's interesting. I never knew he was so different. I thought he was just another hunk. There's some depth there. I love him even more. I would like to have known more about him, but he didn't like to share. God, he was some kind of handsome though. I'm so shallow sometimes.

Not sure if anyone posted about this doc... have any of you Nexflixers seen Making of a Murderer? Although I was spellbound and outright pissed off... Now I have mixed feelings about it, but still...

On a lighter note ( but perhaps a few people will feel it's a bit controversial as it addresses politics but Ken Burn's doc on the Roosevelts (Teddy, FDR, and last but not least at all, Eleanor.) was brilliant! I watched it on Amazon, but I believe it is now on Netflix.

We are so much alike: I can't remember either! We could talk about it again, probably even say the same things - I'd never know. He's an odd duck, but I like him for his support of diversity. Something's up with the wife and kids and such, but I don't remember what it was that nagged me so. He was super sexy in his day. When I first saw Matthew McConaughey I thought he was a nice mixture of Marlon Brando, Paul Newman and a little bit of Robert Redford - not that that has anything at all to do with the Brando documentary.

I've watched the first 6 episodes (just enough to hear the verdict for Stephen Avery), but I haven't heard Brandon's trial. I might watch that right now. I need to get that done. I'll check back in after I do.

Finding Vivian Maier -- Netflix

Super good. Anyone who loves photography will enjoy this, anyone who loves a mystery will love this. Really a well done documentary and I applaud the young man who pursued the story.

Aww. I rushed over here to post about this doc. I wanted to be THE ONE to turn you onto it Dana Jean. (I knew you would like it.)

It was good! The mystery, dark side, the unknown...the brilliance, the eye, the talent...

Hate Crimes In the Heartland (Streaming now on Netflix)

Hate Crimes in the Heartland' explores the 1921 Race Riot and the 2012 Good Friday murders, exposing an All-American city forever divided, and revealing the dangerous connections between the media, power, race, and justice.

I hadn't known about the 1921 Race Riot (stomach churning) or the Good Friday murders (also sickening).

Finders Keepers (Netflix)

Shannon Whisnant purchased a grill at an auction. Inside the grill was an amputated leg. What follows is a story centered on the enterprising Whisnant and John Wood, the man whose leg wound up in the grill due to an odd chain of events
.

All these people are fascinating. I could totally study them for a year or two.

The Hunting Ground (Netflix)

An exposé of rape crimes on U.S. college campuses, their institutional cover-ups, and the devastating toll they take on students and their families.

Sad and infuriating.

Sonic Highways disc 2. Covered Austin, Los Angeles, and New Orleans,

I liked the Austin episode best. However, the guitar solo that Joe Walsh did in the LA episode was awesome. Epically minimalist. So much is said with just a few notes.
