Well, it's Black Monday. Rex Ryan and his GM John Idzik were finally axed by the Jets. GM Phil Emery and Marc Trestman were fired by the Bears. And Mike Smith got fired from the Falcons.

Of course, Jim Harbaugh is going on to coach Michigan. I think that letting Harbaugh go will be a mistake for the Niners. Not everything Harbaugh did was on point (letting Alex Smith go wasn't the smartest decision, IMO), but he's light years better than anything else that could possibly be available to the Niners at this point. They might strike gold, so to speak, but I don't know if they'll do it so soon after Harbaugh.

I consider 3 division championships, 2 NFC championship games and 1 Super Bowl appearance in 4 years to be a success. I would not mess with success like that.

I'm glad the Broncos got a bye week. 22 names on the injury report? They need the rest. And although the score against the Raiders looks impressive, the Raiders were comically bad, and the Broncos were having trouble finishing things up. The score was a relief but not a huge confidence-builder.

I think the first game of the playoffs will be the bellwether of how they'll do for the remainder, assuming (which I do) that there is a remainder.

Yeah baby! Pats bye and home field. Buffalo was sooooo excited they won in Foxborough after however many years. Since 2000 I think? I laughed. Let's hope they don't have to play anyone with a great defense just yet.

Indeed. I'm just scratching my head about it. I wonder if Harbaugh would be making this move now if he had landed Peyton Manning when Manning wasn't tied to a team.

I'm not really sure what happened with Colin Kaepernick this season. A couple of years ago, he looked unstoppable but he really looked lost this season.

The AFC playoffs are going to be tough. I think New England, Denver, Baltimore or Pittsburgh are good enough to go to the Super Bowl and Indy and Cincy aren't too bad either.

I'm just not sure anyone of them will be able to beat Seattle, though. Which I believe is what the team from the AFC will have to do in order to win it all.

Yup, the Jets win over the Dolphins has pretty much guaranteed they took themselves out of position to get one of the two marquee quarterbacks, and the top wide receiver, in next year's draft. Positions they desperately need to improve, along with the cornerback position.

Alas... just another season with the New York Jets. Well... There's always the next decade. :(

Ugly game for the Pats on Sunday. Offensive line needs to get its act together before the first playoff game!
Totally agree! At least during the regular season they beat almost everyone they might play in a potential playoff scenario. With the exception of the Ravens and the Steelers which the Ravens have a sordid history with the Pats and the Steelers could be iffy. BUT I think the Pats offense can outmatch both of those. Now a potential Super Bowl scenario is another story. They lost to Green Bay in the regular season and we all know about that Seahawks D. I hope they make it in, how many more serious years can Brady have? As long as there are no injuries they're going to be a force to be reckoned with. I don't want the Broncos in the SB, that I do know for sure! Unless I can point and laugh at Peyton like last year.

I heard Brady agreed to a restructuring of 24 million on his contract so they acquire some people over the off season. The Pats will load up for next season. Brady's still looks sharp so I'm thinking he plays out the end of his contract at least.

I don't understand the sentiment, but we've all got our own. I got through the Elway years, and I'm a fan of the man as a football player - as a person, somewhat more reserved in my enthusiasm. But I don't have those reservations with Manning. He's completely generous with his team and with his community, he's talented (albeit fading), he's smart, he's not arrogant, he's a good role model. I don't understand the schadenfreude attached to him.

Anyway, I'd love to see the Broncos in the Superbowl, although after last year, I'd be watching the game peeking through my fingers.

Well, I'm fairly certain that college football fans from the state of Mississippi are in mourning right now. Both Ole Miss and Mississippi State got torched yesterday in some very ugly games.
