Chiming in.........I have been active in two types of FB groups.( due to lack real life people sharing my interest).I was in a Dollhouse Miniature making group of less than 100 people. It was appaulling how fast it devolved into catty grade school behaviour.I mean we are talking about a group of woman who make miniatures for crying out loud.Left that group.I am also in a SK group on FB with 38,000 people in it and while there are hiccups from time to time it is amazing to me how civil everybody is with each other.I think many SK fans are "A special breed" of people who just "get" each other. I enjoy dropping in here and it is slowly inserting itself into my daily routine(bad thing for the housework). You all are funny, helpful, kind and "pleasantly" sarcastic and it's a comfortable place to be.In regards to the MODS.......What a job that is! But you guys really pull it off well and I also really appreciate that.--------more than anyone will ever know!

I would like to take just a moment and say that im very thankful for this site. the members on here our amazing. I have been on many forums. I have a few hobbys such as model trains, guns, sport cards. also collect a few other specific items that I wont bore you with. my point is even on a model train forum like O gauge. you think something like that would be pretty lite. but even there , their are a%$^#@s. I mean people get pretty ignorant as soon as your opinion differs from theirs. also a lot of instigating. here is exact opposite. for instant on the forum classics you didn't like. someone might put a book up there that they trashed. that book might be someone elses favorite. instead of taking it personal and lashing out they respect the other persons view. you guys should be proud of this forum and it starts with the moderators and the culture they create. then that filters down to the members. Your all special and above the cut. for sure.
I think the reason there are good people here is partly due to peoples' potential to express goodness which is encouraged here, and partly due to the moderators who make sure we all play nice. There are relatively few members who are forced to leave and when they are it's due to their decision not to be civil. Maybe they can't be, but I think most people can and since they have to be are, and so we stay.

I'll take this opportunity to say that this site has been a major part of some personal life-lesson-learning for me about humility, forgiveness, and tolerance. I've misbehaved sufficiently to earn being banned for life and yet I'm not banned. Certain members have every right to despise me but they don't seem to, in fact we continue to enjoy each others' memberships. In this sense and probably others this group of people is just like healthy family.

I don't think that this message board is entirely unique, that no other has all of this one's positive qualities, but it might be.

Well, I can tell you from experience that this board is more tolerant of outlandish interpretations than many I've been on, so long as you speak your piece in peace (and understand that old saw about "discretion"). I really only hang out on one other board, where I discuss my favorite sports teams. On that board, instead of effective moderation they have an "Ignore" function, which is okay as far as it goes, but is kind of like sweeping the dust under the rug.

We all know the internet can encourage Lord of the Flies behavior. I believe you can learn more in five minutes about a person who thinks he is anonymous than you might in years of dealing with the same person as your next-door neighbor. I won't bother imagining the kind of nonsense we never see on this board (although I suspect I could), and I have no doubt the moderators work hard, but the general tone of the board makes me think most trolls would simply rather find easier pickings somewhere else.

Either that . . . or I am entirely wrong.

Without the mods this place would be crawling with trolls and flamers.
