Two things:
  • Being the first person ever in the history of my family to go to university. I hated it, but I made it.
  • Not killing myself with alcohol. Never joined the AA or any other ”program”, so I don't keep track of the days, but I am quite sure it's more than ten years since my last drink now. The best thing is that I don't miss booze.

Congrats to both!

Both, Russian to English and English to Russian. I also know French, but I don't normally use it... Honestly, I do not like the language. I also understand some Spanish, but I doubt I will have time to finish learning it and speak fluently.
Me, too Lina - I am not a big fan of the French language, even though my Dad was French from Quebec and I took a six month French course in Quebec - they use too many syllables to say the same thing that we can say in English much more simply.

It's a bit silly, but seeing my son get interested in reading is a big accomplishment for me. Reading has always been such an important part of my life and I very much wanted him to be able to kick back and just enjoy reading a book. He's almost ten years old and I can see that he actually enjoys reading. He will get very quiet sometimes and I'll peek into his room to see him hunched over his computer desk with a book. When I ask him how he's doing, he gives me the mumbled "I'm ok" but he's really not there, he's reading. I like to see that.
There is nothing silly about this. I have the same aspirations with my child. Don't really care what she reads as long as I am able to open the door to literature for her.

I admire you, sir, as a person and a father.

You are right, French is just too difficult. Especially it's hard to understand the oral speach. English is also not the easiest language to understand, of course, but at least I love it:love:

I'm so pleased to hear this, Sharon. :) xox
Well it's been an eventful few weeks, and so stressful. Our building was sold to a new owner, and they are bringing their own staff, so hubby and I not only lost our jobs but our apartment as well. It was part of our compensation package. We were supposed to vacate on the 17th of June, after being given our notice on the 10th. We were able to extend our stay until this weekend.

Now the good news! Hubby started a new job today, and his salary is more than both of us were getting even including the apartment. We managed to find an apartment to move into this weekend which includes our utilities at a very reasonable rent per month. Tomorrow I have to try and find someone to move us on Sunday. Our new place is smaller, but will be fine for just the two of us. They also accept pets, so that is great. Things have worked out well. I will most likely be without internet access after Sunday night for a day or two but then I'll be back. Tomorrow is going to be busy, so I may not be here much.

How very stressful this must have been, I'm sorry you guys went through all of that... but also hugely relieved to hear this outcome! Good luck with the move, I hope it will go smoothly for you both, let us know how it's going as soon as you can. xox
