I'm so bummed, I just read that he was in Old City on Saturday, near Elfreth's Alley. My family and I were in Old City on Saturday! We could have saved him, taken him to the Phillies game and brought him home. I'm so bummed we turned around and didn't make it to Elfreth's Alley :(

At least Hitchbot got to see a little bit of heaven before being destroyed.

While I find it a shame that the bot was destroyed, I found some of the comments below the article are disturbing to me. They speak of the world hating Americans.........
I can't shed tears over a robot. Hate scares me though......

Regarding the comments...most are the usual trolls. They are the same people that wish death on a child with a peanut allergy.

I admit, I did not expect Hitchbot to make it safely coast to coast in the US. Not because I hate Americans and not because I think they are all evil. But, as a country, so much of your history is violent. Your society is much more "me" based than Canada is.

Hitchbot required strangers to transport and take care of him. I do not view America as nurturing, and that is not to say that no American is. I think many are. But as one small Canadian who has occasionally needed help when dealing with American companies and phoning the CSR's....nurturing is not the word that comes to mind. When contacting Canadian companies, they have always been much easier to deal with and reach a satisfactory resolution, usually.

Well, I would like to thank a few of those Canadian "Mes" who stole our Dodge Caravan while visiting Montreal back in the late '90's. Was a joyful vacation to be sure . My six year old daughter and two year old son found it particularly enjoyable.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but those violent "Mes" inhabit the four corners of the globe.

For me personally, I'm just tired of Philly getting a bad rap. We are huge Philly sports fans in this house and anytime anything is ever brought up about the Eagles, it has to be mentioned about that one time back in the 60's that fans threw snowballs at Santa. Or the fact that the old stadium had a jail and courtroom in it. Its old news and this is just one more thing that will be brought up in years to come about how awful the city and people are.

I'm not from Philly nor is anyone in my family. We actually live 2 hours outside of Philly. But in all of the times I've been into the city we've never had a bad experience. That being said we aren't walking the city streets at night.

Well, I'm a Giants fan, so I'll be seeing you in the Football Cave thread in a few months I'm sure. :p

Absolutely.

And there are good people everywhere too.

I've seen a few comments about "they booed Santa" and didn't know what it was about. Actually sounds like a story I may look into out of curiosity.

The old stadium had a jail and courtroom, lol.
