I inherited a Ranch-style house the basement of which for years has needed waterproofing, and I'm finally having that done. Once that work is complete I'll be ready to fix the basement up into a place in which I can spend some leisure time. My plans are still nebulous, yet are gradually taking shape. One thing I want to do is create a library including shelves built-into the walls. There's already a fireplace down there, which my dad had installed but which needs to be finished and approved for use. I figure I can have a nice den for reading, maybe have a dog curled up at my feet after he brings me the newspaper. I'll have to subscribe, though.
After that, I'm dreaming of trying to afford a hot tub in a deck off the basement door. My current plan is to do the basement remodeling myself, as well as building the hot tub deck. I've got rough carpentry experience, but the remodeling will be a learning curve. But I'm really looking forward to all of it. Except for the parts I'm probably going to not look forward to.
