;-D No. There is nowhere near the foot required to call off school. I'm kidding about how much they use to decide that, but it is a rare, rare thing. Couple winters ago when we had wind chills below 30 for a week, we still had school. We only have one built in snow day, so it has to be pretty terrible out for the powers that be to use it. ;)

You guys are hardcore out there!! :D

Well, if you bring the kiddos to school or the bus stop be careful. K?

Back in antiquity when I was going to school  they rarely closed school for weather but when I was serving on my town's school board it was explained to us that the reason they do it so much more often now is because of liability reasons. If any kids were hurt because of an accident caused by the weather, they could be held liable and if a town nearby closed but your town didn't that could be used against the school district.

Seems like here, they use the busses ability to navigate as one of the main criteria. And even then, sometimes, if the busses are having trouble, there will just be a delay for bus kids, rather than cancel for everyone.

It makes sense to think about liability. I do wish they were more liberal in using the snow days. But today would definitely not qualify, anyway. I remember being pretty angry that winter it was so bitter and no snow days used. But those were still in the days I had to walk to and from with the kids! :cold:

So it's true what they say about horse-drawn carriages being good in the snow?

Our house backs on to a school yard and it's amazing what we got away with back in the day. Now a kid gets their hand stuck in a chainlink fence, the teachers are on the portable radios like a swat team. And why is boys scream louder than girls??

It's Wednesday, so it must be snowing. Big flakes coming down hard and winter storm warning until 1 PM this afternoon with another 5-9" of snow possible. The only reason I can think of that they didn't close schools is because they're already over on their allotted snow days. Just heard that there was a 40 car pileup on I-95 which is now closed from Newport to Bangor (about 27 miles). No fatalities reported but some serious injuries. Going to be an interesting drive home but hopefully it will end at the time predicted so they'll have the roads cleaned up by 4.
(((M,))) that's awful! You be safe out there... xox ♥

Snow stopped about 11:30 and sun is now shining. My partner said he thought we got between 6-8" of snow at our house and promises the driveway will be plowed by the time I get home. :smile2:
keep an eye out on the "other" drivers. They know not what they are doing most of the time! Safe journey home to a plowed drive way and "clean" garage!
