Has snowing and raining alternately these past weeks. At this moment we have snow but it's very slippery and forecast says rain end of this week. It's still below zero and getting colder for
tomorrow but let's see what we have end of this week if we believe in forecast.

Looks like we have about 4" of snow and it hasn't stopped yet. Thankfully I was able to find someone to plow the driveway a couple weeks ago so won't be snowed in. Supposed to stay cold all week so this won't be melting anytime soon.

Just be safe driving.
I'm going to have to get up early on Thursday to see if I can make it into SAM'S to have my snow tires put on. I didn't want to do that before I left because the gas mileage is affected. I think I can make an appointment so I could be early in line rather than taking my chances at just showing up.

For several days we've had snow so each day I swept front and back steps, shoveled the walk, and swept off the car, being super careful as last year I broke my ankle falling down the back steps on which was then a small amount of melting snow. On the 10th I got into a bit of a jam because the DirecTV dish was completely snowed over and I could not clear it. Some joker on Facebook said to use the garden hose, so what happened with that was of course it was frozen so no water would flow through it, and when I shook it to try to break up the ice the hose snapped and ripped open in at least three places. An outdoor hose is never supposed to be connected in this weather, and I could not budge it, even with pliers, plus our TV still didn't work. Anyhow, a lady who knows my sister and niece, and her husband, came over with a broom and ladder and fixed both problems in no time. On the 11th we had a bit of a thaw, but more snow fell on the 12th. So far the TV is still working.

Have your friends try spraying the dish with a non-stick cooking spray like PAM or the like. It helps the snow slide off and in the summer you can cook your burgers on it!

If you can get a hand held hair dryer out to the hose you can melt the ice with it. Just don't try it when it is snowing or raining out and for goodness sake be careful!

Maybe invest in an extendible paint pole...if you have a Sherwin Williams store in the area they carry them, come in a variety of lengths. Have several and the longest can extend out to...oh, about twenty feet. You could use a roller frame on the end like a broom, either cover the roller frame with a paint roller or rags, socks, something. If you get as much snow as we do maybe the hardware stores carry "roof rakes"...a device to do just that, rake the roof, metal blade on one end, usually aluminum (light-weight), usually three poles that attach to one another, extended reach of 20-24' or so, use the pole end of the device, put a glove or mitten on the end, you're good to go.

Maybe I should see if I can fire up the Propane fireplace and test out the generator before the frigid temps arrive and we lose power. But what fun is there in being all prepared, and all? :)

This extreme cold weather is coming from Canada, right? Methinks we need to build a wall on the northern border, also. ;)
