Yes, Math 1 is Algebra, Math 2 is Geometry, and Math 3 is advanced Algebra. I always laugh at these being the required courses because most students aren't going to be engineers.....my child wants to sing and dance.
They actually get to choose the 4th Math course their senior year.
I hope they have volunteer tutors.....I sure can't help her.....I'm a hairstylist, and I took all business courses
If the school does not offer "teacher" volunteers, is there a college near by? Often students will be happy to help as it may mean extra credit in their course of study. Contact a guidance counselor at the college if the school does not offer you help ( then make a big stink about volunteers needed-- my HS-- eons ago, set up advanced students to be volunteers in all subjects and they rec'd a letter in their files for college/ university- maybe a suggestion?)

Math 2 just about killed my daughter's GPA last year. I contacted her counselor to ask about switching to Business Math for the upcoming year. I was told that there will not be any schedule changes and that Math 3 is required for graduation as well as required for admission to a 4 year college.
So, are they saying that a 4 year college would rather accept a student who makes a D in a Math course that they'll never ever use in life instead of accepting a student who makes an A or a B in a practical Math course?
Most colleges provide free math tutoring. My daughter tutors 5 different math subjects at her college. She has a gift to be able to help students not only do the required work but to also help them understand the subject matter. The key is finding the right tutor... Not one that only understands the subject but can help the student to understand.

If your daughter is in high school and the school doesn’t provide math help, look into outside resources that provide help. Online searches on math tutoring are available and some are free for K-12 students. Some high schools also have resources in conjunction with local junior colleges that might be of help.

Well, she could use the algebra to determine how much money they need to make to cover the cost of production over time, and the geometry to measure and block the stage. :)

I'd be glad as a client that you know how to measure and estimate angles...

I know budget and finance like the back of my hand.....never once took algebra.
I don't really measure ....i just know where hair needs to be cut. It's always been that way for me. I've had to convert math problems to color formulas to help my daughter with her Math....but the teachers frown on that, because it's not the method being taught.....doesn't matter that it delivers the correct answer.
I might be a bumpkin, but I'm far from dumb.......

We have both a community college and a large university here. I'm sure they both offer some sort of tutoring......also sure it will come at a price for a high school student. Hopefully, there will be tutoring offered at her school.
Last year, her teacher stayed late a couple of hours each day to help students who were struggling

I meant to quote Spideyman and DiO'Bolic on this, but I'm using the stupid phone today.......

Come on now, don't sell yourself short!! :p

You've actually hit the real issue on the head with this comment. You actually do use algebra and geometry. The folks who created the documented versions of it we call a discipline now "figured it out" too. The point is when you are a stylist, you also need a logical approach to the procedure. I understand each one is unique, but you have a base set of rules you follow and that reveals a technical logic.

But the problem is we don't teach people that they kind of already know this stuff because the human mind works this way. I have thought for a long time that a second path of a class on personal finance and one on practical math in the real world should be made available to satisfy grad requirements in High Schools. The eventuality of this really is to create different kinds of HS diplomas, similar to a degree. Have an arts one, a tech one, an engineering one, a science one, etc. but in all schools, not just specialty/private ones.

I can't say I am angry today - more like a bit sad - yesterday while on my run to Children's Wards I heard a small child saying over and over Daddy, Daddy in a pitiful voice.

Later when I returned on a second run there was inconsolable sobbing coming from the same room.

Kids in hospitals are so vulnerable - it must be hard for the nurses and caregivers to hear that - I wonder if there are volunteers who could sit with the children?

I am shure they have trained staff, and have victim services or counselling, or even perhaps a chapel.. my good friends mom was killed by a drunk driver crossing the street, and they pulled them into a private room and explained things to them, and after they said victim services whould be their, so hopfully the child had some one sitting with him.

Angry at myself. Miserable, actually. I'm almost 24 years old, and I haven't accomplished anything with my life. I want to be a writer, actor, and director, but it's all a futile pipe dream.

You are 24, and whant your u are felling is normal. You seem like a cool guy, please tell me about you're self

Where do I begin? I have an autism spectrum disorder, I'm nearsighted, I'm overweight, I'm unemployed, still stuck in community college, working on two novels and short stories that are going nowhere, and I'm an unironic Molly Ringwald fan. Sums it up nicely, doesn't it?

Connor B - you said you are 24-- you have a lifetime before you. You stated in your other post you have not accomplished anything-- not true. You are alive, attending school, working on two novels and short stories.
You can deal with the autism spectrum disorder, glasses help nearsightedness, a change in diet and exercise can help with the weight issue, being unemployed - jobs are scarce. You are working on education and that will help with future employment. There is nothing wrong with Molly Ringwald! Each individual will like or dislike actors/ actresses. It is a personal choice and you have the right to feel as you do.
Connor- an old saying-- change the way you look at things and the things you look at change. Take a positive outlook. Positives draw positives. You are young and can conquer anything you desire. Dreams are what life is made up of, and there are no pipe dreams. All dreams can be obtainable. Manifest what you want. Oh to be 24 again and have a open path to the future. I send you love and green lights. Know you have your whole life ahead-- positives only.
