I honestly didn't realize Prince was that good of a guitar player. I thought he just sort of dabbled. That was brilliant. And he was very engaged with everyone. George's son looks so much like him doesn't he?
Thanks for posting the link, luv! I don't know how to do that- it's beyond my techie abilities. Prince has stated many times that he wants to be remembered for his guitar playing, mostly because most of the world thinks like you do- that he only 'dabbles' with guitars. He is truly an amazing guitar player, along with the piano and most other instruments. The only thing he has trouble with is the horns. I have an entire cd of Prince that is almost all acoustical- just him on a six-string with some drums and piano- amazing work!

Even Gun's and Roses guitar player Slash said that he cannot for the life of him figure out how to play the opening riff from When Doves Cry... He says Prince is on a whole other level when it comes to the guitar....

Other musicians said much the same thing about Jimi Hendrix. "Yeah, we watch him. We see what he's doing. We still don't know how he does it."

Wanna see a true look of joy and amazement? Go to youtube and watch the clip from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when Tom Petty, George Harrison's son, Prince and a bunch of others are on stage playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Watch Harrison's son's face when Prince does his guitar solo.....

Wow. I didn't know Prince could play like that either. And Dan, you're right. George's son's expression is priceless.

Prince was so ahead of his time. He sort of changed the game. That was really cool to watch!
He changed the record industry. A lot of artists owe him big-time for changing how they get paid (it used to be somewhat standard practice for record companies to change the UPC labels on records sold in Europe so that they could short-change the artists) and how artists are represented. A lot of folks don't like him, I get that, but he does so much stuff behind the scenes that most don't hear about. Did anyone know that he used to play shows and offer free tickets to deaf people? That he donates a lot of the proceeds from shows to local charities?

I know, right? His expression says something like 'I'm in the presence of all of these talented people and of a genius.' It's exactly how I would look. I wouldn't even be able to play along side of him.

I did not know that, but I've always been a fan. Now even more so.

Something else I don't get: reality TV. It was fun to watch the first 2 seasons of Real World on MTV, after that it seems likes it's not really real. It's scripted reality. And some of those folks really over-act. The guy on Tanked drives me nuts. I don't watch, the Ogre does. I lie by his side and read or talk with y'all.

I despise (un)reality TV.

I love his voice. When Doves Cry is perfect and so is Kiss.
