I've had them but was a mild case and was fortunate to catch it very early so the antibiotics were able to keep them from getting worse. Hope they'll kick in soon for you so that you won't have to deal with them for long.
I waited a week before going to the doc. I am on anti-viral pills and pain meds. He is hoping that it will slow it down and keep it from spreading to other muscles. Lying down to sleep is like trying to get comfortable in an iron maiden.

The pain is almost as bad as when I was getting chemo. I am on antiviral meds. Anyone else ever had it?
yes - I had it in February 2013 - the pain was so bad - I can definitely sympathize with you. Your immune system must have been under attack - too much stress in your life will weaken it

(((((Staro))))) - healing vibes

It is advertised for arthritis pain relief but I used it on my hip area (not directly on top of the rash). It burned like hell but somehow seemed to "draw the pain out" - yes, I know, sound like me old granny!
[but it really did help]

(((Staro))) I was able to get treatment within 48 hours which I was told was the optimum window for the medicine they gave me to work and it seemed to do the trick. Or I was lucky that it was a really mild case anyway. Either way I'm counting my blessings as it looks and sounds like it would be horrible to deal with. I've had the shingles vaccination since then but it's no guarantee I won't get them again.

Sorry to hear about this Staro! A couple of weeks ago I asked my doctor about the vaccine and was told that most insurance companies won't cover it unless the patient is over 60 years old and it is an expensive shot (around $300). I wish you a quick recovery.

...sweetheart, I ache for you...That is a bit*h of a virus and if they put you on Zovirax, after waiting so long-it will have limited effect if any....meds of that ilk for viral attacks like these are more of a panacea...they don't cure anything-only limit the length of the misery to some extent...stay on the pain meds and push fluids...also, the Zostavax injection I highly recommend if you are of the appropriate age to receive...

I had it on my chest. The rash came after I had felt pain for a week. I had waited a little over a week before seeing the doc......I went the day after I thought I was having a heart attack.....they gave me a super heavy dosage of anti viral meds, and Lyrica for pain.
It took about three weeks to even feel like I could breathe without pain.

had a mild case years ago a kind of rash on my legs...did go to the v.a. and the doc prescribed something that worked. i've heard horror stories of shingles. sounds like you have one of the horror stories. you have my sympathy. i hope you can find some relief and soon. i know i read someone got the shingles shot, maybe it was on that vaccine thread? have considered getting the shot myself. i'm a few years shy of 60...and sheesh, does that sound like a wake-up call. not 19 anymore. my mild case was brought on by stress, we think, break-up, taking the g.r.e., this, that, the other. does the doctor know what brought it on? or does it just allofasudden decide to plague a person?
