Thanks! They've been keeping me pretty busy at work so I haven't had much time to post. My daughters' school district closed on Tuesday and then again on Wednesday. The lowest temp we got was negative 12. Things started improving by noon yesterday, it's funny how quickly you adjust to the new lows and suddenly 17 degrees feels "warm"!

They never closed school here from the cold although my son had a two hour delay on Monday because of freezing rain. Can you ever remember them closing school for the cold ever before?

Are you kidding????....I've been known to go hide in the basement if someone I know shows up unannounced! ;;D

Don't do that!!

They may have Velveeta.........

They had a two hour delay here too, but then some of the schools had an early release due to the weather...
I was on the road for over 10 hours that day, with hardly any problems...

It was a mess for a time, but then it was 50 here by noon.........then 5 below by 7......LOL

When I was a kid we rarely had cancellations and only when the snow was pretty heavy. Nowadays I think they look for any reason to cancel or delay! Maybe they're afraid of lawsuits.

I can't ever remember school being cancelled from cold weather. And I think you are right on about the lawsuits!

:) We weren't allowed to wear shorts--in fact, girls weren't even allowed to wear slacks in my school. Tights and heavy knee socks were still quite popular for us and even better when the maxi coat was in fashion. Oh, yeah, I had me one of them! =D

Sounds like the Catholic school I went to. In the 8 long years I attended, the biggest fashion jump was going from maroon bow ties to plaid bow ties.

A lot like the one on the far right. Trying to remember what color it was but not sure if it was camel or navy blue. Was a PITA trying to get on/off the bus while carrying an armful of books--this was also back in the day before back packs were in style--but I sure did appreciate not having the wind and cold whip around my legs and up my skirt.

What really ticked me off was that I think it was the year after I graduated that they changed the dress code so that girls could wear slacks. I think they were hoping they'd go for them rather than the micro minis that were in style. We had to do the does the hem touch the seat test if they thought our skirts were too short--we had to get on the seat on our knees and keep our back straight so we weren't cheating by getting the hem to touch by slouching.

I actually like these. Classic lines.

They would have looked great on you. For someone as short as I am, not so much, but I really didn't care as I was more concerned with staying warm. And at that age just wearing something that was in fashion was more important than really being aware of how we looked in it. :wink2: As much as I liked some of them, I stayed away from the maxi dress fashions in style this past year as I now know better.
