12 Years a Slave...very uncomfortable and disturbing to watch...but everyone should watch it. I haven't cried so hard during a movie in a long time. Immediately downloaded the book on my Kindle.
Afterwards, I am just in a funk...owning people and treating them worse than animals...it keeps blowing my mind that it truly happened. And in 2015, racism is still so prevalent...I get so angry thinking about it.
Sometimes the past is hard to rectify. It is a shame that race is STILL a factor today.

I forgot to say that you, my lady, are braver than I am. I won't watch this movie for exactly what you've described.

I forced myself to, and am so glad I watched it. I think that sometimes we should watch what is most disturbing to us so we WILL be uncomfortable with our past, will be more informed and will appreciate what we have. Plus, as a white female in the U.S., watching this movie helped me to understand behavior and attitudes of both races today. I highly recommend watching it just so you'll be disturbed by the horrible practice of slavery.

I think repeated viewings of 'Roots' in my youth helped me to understand things.

I know! I have a hard time with the concept that people were owned, and treated worse than bad. I hate that.

I thought they used CGI because he just looked horrible, but it's really him! Good movie.

Legend has it he lived off coffee, apples and tuna and crackers to get to that sickly weight. And right after finishing the Machinist, he got the Batman gig and then had to work double overtime to get up to an impressive Batman style physique!

I also just watched the movie Equilibrium, which is a dystopian film he also stars in. It was a Christian Bale Two-fer. Sometimes, I just sit around all day sipping half and half straight from the carton, ogling Christian Bale. I love him. He's so hardcore about his acting roles, he will do ANYTHING to be his characters. His level of dedication to his craft is possibly the sexiest thing ever.

Night at the Museum III. LilMan wanted to see it for the end of his holiday break, just the two of us. Not a very good movie (though it had a few funny bits), but it did make me cry quite a bit at the end. To think that was the last time we'll see Robin Williams in a new film... and he seemed quite obviously ill during the making--he moved like he hurt, and was lacking most of his 'spark'. It just hurt my heart.

I watched a little flick called The Art of the Steal, a comedy/caper flick with Kurt Russell and Matt Dillon. It was pretty good, and I'm glad to see Kurt Russell again. I had read a few years ago that he had retired. He's always been one of my favorite actors, and one that I think is very underrated, so it's good to see him return to making movies.

I thought the same. The movie up until the last few minutes was enjoyable, but then it was like they thought they had to tack on a fake, unconvincing 'happy' ending that made no sense with the rest of the story. Disappointing.

I thought it was especially bad because
he has basically stolen some guy's life, and Christina (I think that is her name) has no idea that she is talking to a completely different person.
