The Island. Scarlett Johanssen and Ewan McGregor. Dystopian near future. Started well, and had a decent supporting cast (Steve Buscemi, Sean Bean, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Clarke Duncan), but sort of fell apart at the end. The crashes and battles went on too long, and Scarlett Johanssen is just window dressing. Yeah, I know she's beautiful, but she's better than walking around with either a dopey Barbie smile or a sort of confused, constipated pout. Never Let Me Go did far better with a similar subject (heck, Logan's Run was a close contender, for that matter).

Ah heck, gimme Logan's Run any ol day, with a side order of Soylent Green. And gimme a young Jenny Agutter over ScarJo (though it's a close race). I have a very creepy thing for British chicks, especially ones who date American Werewolves. Awooooo....

Well . . . it's not a movie, per se, but I did get the complete box set for The Larry Sanders Show and watched all of season one over the weekend.

20 years later that stuff is still funnier than anything that's on TV now.
You clearly haven't seen the episode of 'Cops' that GNTLGNT is on where he's trying to get into Steve King's kitchen. It's HILARIOUS!!!! 'But, Officer, I just wanted some cookies!' ;-D

The Best Years Of Our Lives, 1946.

Kinda sappy and melodramatic, not Wyler's best, but at times quite gripping. My favorite part is the beginning, with the three Vets hitching a ride home in the bomber, watching the country zoom past below. That, and Hoagy Carmichael.
This one is a classic I've yet to see in its entirety.

It's well worth a watch. Harold Russell's scenes make the flick. I guess this won a freakin bushel of Oscars--all about the mindset of the time, I suppose.
I saw a trailer of it when I was a kid and the idea of the plight of a solder losing his hands and having hooks instead was too heavy for a kid my age, so even as an adult I've avoided watching it.

Hot Fuzz - Simon Pegg

From the team that gave us Shaun Of The Dead. An overzealous police officer gets transferred from London to a sleepy village where his big city crime fighting techniques don't go over too well with the locals. But, is there a sinister conspiracy going on? Very funny - I liked this one as much as I liked Shaun Of The Dead. Available on netflix.

It's been a while since I've been on this thread! I'll just list the ones I've seen LOL.

Southpaw (2015)-Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Forest Whittaker. This movie is about a boxer who loses his wife in a tragic accident, then his daughter is taken away to child services. Strong performances by Gyllenhaal, and especially the girl, Oona Lawrence, who plays his daughter.

Ant-Man (2015)-Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas. I LOVED this movie, haha. So much fun from start to finish. Plus, Paul Rudd can do no wrong, he was so good in this. I'm glad he's now part of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe"

Inside Out (2015)-Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Mindy Kaling. Pixar's latest film that centers around the emotions in a young girl's mind and how they help shape her best and worst memories. As always, Pixar brings the emotional punches and convey messages about every-day life. Great for both kids and adults.

Jurassic World (2015)-Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D'Onofrio. A fun dinosaur flick. That's it, lol. I liked it, but was disappointed with it :/ (I think what ruined it for me was there were too many unlikeable characters and cliched moments *shrugs*) Nothing can beat the first!

Paper Towns (2015)-Nat Wolff, Cara Delevigne. Based off a John Green book, it's about a teenage boy who goes on a road trip with his friends to find his crush after she disappears and leaves clues. I like The Fault in Our Stars better, but this is a also a good adaptation of Green's third book. The soundtrack is stellar, though, that features cool indie-rock music.

Enemy (2013)-Jake Gyllenhaal, Melanie Laurent, Sarah Gadon. Wanted to point this one out. I got this from my library; it's one of those movies that you haven't really heard of. It's different; it's a psychological thriller where Gyllenhaal (who plays TWO different characters) stars as Adam, a reserved college teacher who watches a movie one day and finds one of the actors (Anthony, played by Gyllenhaal) who looks exactly like him. Adam then tries to find Anthony and then crazy things happen! I would recommend this one!
