Over the break, I watched Godspell. I had never seen it before.

I vacillated between thinking it was the dumbest thing I ever saw, to thinking it was really creative. I will say this for sure, there was a great deal of physical activity. The timing and the practice it must have taken to remember to hit their marks just right plus remembering the song or lines they had to sing or say, that alone was worth some respect.

My favorite thing about the whole show: The Chief from Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Lynne Thigpen was in it. THis was one of the first computer games we ever got on one of our very first computer systems and my kids loved it. We played that thing constantly and I managed to make it to the end.

Unfortunately, she passed away.

I watched Godspell a few years ago. My friend's son was starring in a production of it, and my son who is also in music theatre was going through a stage of wanting to watch a lot of movies made from stage musicals. It was OK, but not one I'll watch a second time.

~~~
Yesterday I watched Coat of Many Colors by Dolly Parton. It was sweet. The little girl starring as Dolly could be my granddaughter.
Just caught the third Night At The Museum movie. It was okay. But it was hard to watch Robin Williams saying "goodbye" even if he was in character. :(
It will take me a while. Every time I see his picture splashed on a screen, I feel at least a little sad.
We watched it a few months ago. I had tissues at the ready and used them all.:down:
Daddy's Home - fun slapstick comedy.
Snoopy And Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie - how can you make a 3-panel strip into a full length film? Joyous, catches Schulz' world and style perfectly.
In The Heart Of The Sea - Moby Thor. Visually impressive, a bit overlong.
While I enjoyed this dark film, it made me feel like I needed to take a shower afterwards to cleanse myself of the bad-gunky that happens in it. Pitt was good, Freeman was great, Spacey was so excellant. Part of me wants to watch it again (I saw it in the theater when it was first released) but I don't think I want the film's darkness to infiltrate my psyche. It ain't no picnic, folks!
Ish! The Ogre told me nothing about this movie, just said, hey meet me at such & such theatre after work Friday. So we went on opening night. Honest to God, not a word was spoken by anyone in the theatre after the movie ended. We all sat there sort of shocked and then silently filed out. Terrifying, creepy, well done. Scared me to my bones.
Hubby and I watched the original "Star Wars" movie last night. He's a longtime fan; I still am not. Too much of a "boy's" movie for me (even the prequels with my Ewan couldn't hold my interest).
We will probably watch the other 2 tonight since I am being dragged to see the new one tomorrow. He wants to see it so bad but his friends have already seen it an he refuses to go to a movie theater alone.
So, being the wonderful wife I am, I agreed to go with him. Maybe I'll read with my phone on "night mode" ;)
Let me share my tale- I went to see it by myself in the theater during a matinee showing. There was a young woman there with two small children- a boy of about 4 and a girl of about 3. Not too many other folks there to see it at that time of day, maybe about another 20 or so. During the scene where Pitt and Freeman go down into the cellar of the porn theater ('He made me put it on! He made me put it on!'), a woman from the other side of the theater got up, came over to where the young mother with the two kids were sitting and said to her 'I cannot believe that you brought these two kids to see this movie! You are disgusting!' and turned around and walked away. I was mortified for the young mother but at the same time I was thinking the same thing. How could she let her young impressionable kids see something so vile?
Wow - I'm shocked that anyone would take little kids to see that. I'm like you, I wanted to wash that movie from my mind. And I agree, rude of the woman to comment - I just don't think anyone deserves to be dressed down by a stranger.
When I was little - 3, 4, 5 - my parents used to take me to drive in movies. The first film was usually family friendly. And after that they'd tell me to lay down in the back and go to sleep. Right. I saw Dirty Larry, Crazy Mary and countless other movies I shouldn't have. I'm sure I fell asleep at some point for most of them. I remember once waking up to seeing plane crash survivors cutting strips of flesh off the bodies they'd buried in the snow.
Did you ever see a little gem called 'Ssssssss'? It was about a crazy scientist and his daughter that live out in the sticks and the Dad figures out a way to turn people into snakes. Along comes a handsome young man, who naturally takes a liking to the daughter, they fool around, making Daddy mad, and daddy of course turns the guy into a snake. Cheesy and yet a very effective movie!
I watched Dressed To Kill by Brian DePalma last night. Hadn't seen it since it hit the theaters years ago. God, what a stylish film! I love the extended camera shots with the camera following the characters around. Angie Dickenson (Police Woman) certainly created a stir when she did this movie- there's nude scenes with her! Michael Caine is understated, as usual, but excellent.
I did too! It really was a thriller. I always wondered if that was really Angie's body or if she had a stand-in
