We watched The Conjuring 2 this weekend, too. I thought the first one was scarier...yet that freaky nun was in my head all darn night! No nightmares, but her face was right there in my mind's eye every time I woke up.

Those kinds of movies freak me out.
She was definitely unsettling at first. I don't know if she will remain so for whole other movie. I think seeing her more often will remove the gasp factor.

Watched Nocturnal Animals last night.
Sorry, but the first few minutes was disgusting and far too long.
I had a full plate of nachos in front of me and I had to wait until the images were out of my brain and my stomach settled down before I could enjoy my food.
Though the remainder of the movie was not as nauseating, it was terribly drawn out. Should've followed my first instinct turned it off during opening credits, but I was curious about finding out how it all ended.
It didn't. Don't waste two hours of your life.

I'm the one who put it on our Netflix queue so I'm "not allowed" to pick movies again for a while.
I watched it last week. That opening was horrifying. I have no other words.

Both the movie and the story within the story, were depressing and beyond. Haven't felt that way after a movie since I watched The Road. :(

little behind on watching movies. couple weeks ago i watched fate of the furious at my friends house (aka fast and the furious part 8) and . . . oh boy. it's like paul walker was the only thing holding the hardcore ham back. when the opening scene is:

vin diesel racing in an old busted up jalopy against a new car, the jalopy is cobbled together including using spit, prayers, and in one case, a soda tab for some kind of connection that i've already forgotten, and he wins the race in said car, no doors, on fire, and *in reverse*

that's when you know they've officially given up and have just decided to fully embrace status as the biggest budget B movie ever. cheese for days.

The Street with No Name, 1948, Mark Stevens and Richard Widmark.

It was okay. Grandma liked it better. It was a reasonably interesting yarn with generous sprinklings of contrivances and staid formulae, right down to keeping it a "City with No Name" as well, "Center City." At one point, I thought they might be talking about St. Louis.

Mark Stevens played the undercover FBI guy, and he was sympathetic in the role. Richard Widmark played the "mob" boss, but as mob bosses go, it was kind of wimpy. Yeah, he was brooding and menacing, and quite good at that, but his "mob" was a stick-up crew of about half a dozen pitiful bachelors.

It was interesting, seeing the technology - or lack of it - they had to work with and the results they got from it. And of course, the narration was straight out of "The Untouchables" or whatever other law-enforcement-adoring cinematic efforts were going on at the time, give or take a couple decades.

I read the book and watched the movie and they were unsettling to say the least. I couldn't wrap my mind around why Jake didn't DO someTHING!!! But, looking at it, not much he could do.

BTW-the movie and book ending were different.

I haven't watched Magic Mike. Do you recommend it? (Ack! McConaughey gross? Well all right, all right, all right.)
According to my daughter, the marketing was deceptive. It is NOT a sex romp, despite having strippers, and it's not really funny. She said it is really pretty serious and sad (not surprising when the director is Steven Soderberg).

And dark. Story aside, the visuals were so dim I thought something was wrong with my TV. And their home may have been the most bleak "rich people house" I've ever seen on film.

I was going to read the book first, but aftrr the movie, I have no interest. The main draw for me was that Michael Shannon had a role. I adore him.

Speaking of which, have you seen the movie Wristcutters? That's a quirky little number--I quite enjoyed it

John turned me on to the book, The Bus Driver Who Wanted To Be God by Etgar Keret back in 2004. Included was the story "Kneller's Happy Campers". We had both read the story when we went to see the movie. (My son enjoys write cutter movies. Have mercy.)

The story within the story (husband and wife) in the book is different. I think it was a big difference but what was in the movie was okay. Not as good as the book but okay. Also, I liked the book ending better. (Say Hey! to your son.)

(Say Hey! to your son.)

He is being extremely happy the past couple days (praying I didn't just jinx it!) so I'm not saying anything to him. (But thanks!!!)
First unwritten rule with him is that we are only allowed to.speak to him when he initiates. Unless we are offering ice cream, but sometimes not even then.
Second rule is once we learn the "rules" he will.change them and make new rules.
