The Maltese Falcon

Always a pleasure. Some of the acting and writing is a little too pat, but the dialogue is so clever, and it's an intriguing plot. I liked it last night as much as I did the first time I watched it.

North by Northwest

The first time I'd seen it from beginning to end. It was okay. Somewhat disappointing. I wasn't happy with the development of the main character, and at the end, it was almost as if someone said, "We have five minutes of film left, Mr. Hitchcock. We need to wrap up." Not one of Hitchcock's best, not for me.

Horns-One of the best book to movie adaptations I've seen. The screenwriter really should be commended for capturing Joe Hill's story and characters while skirting large book sections of inner monologue. Very, very well done!
Where'd you see this? Another one I really want to watch!

Awesome!
Really mad that it's not playing in any of the local theaters here. Hopefully, they play it soon!

Recently I've seen:
Lone Survivor (2013)-Heartbreaking but heroic true story of the US Navy SEAL mission Operation Red Wings, where a four-man recon team was assigned to track down a Taliban leader. I have to admit, sometimes I can't watch these movies because I get too upset:a11:; especially when they show the pictures of the real Navy SEALs portrayed in the movie and their families. But, this was very good and well-done. Strong performances by Mark Walhberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, and Ben Foster.
Fruitvale Station (2013)-Another true (and sad) story about Oscar Grant, who was killed by a BART police officer at the Fruitvale Station in Oakland, California. Excellent performance by Michael B. Jordan as Grant.
On the Road (2012)- I enjoyed this. Book is better. But I personally think that the book is hard to adapt on screen, so I think the movie did a good job and tried to do the book justice. Meanwhile, Garrett Hedlund is exactly who I pictured as Dean Moriarty and Sam Riley (who played Ian Curtis, lead singer of Joy Divison, in Control-highly recommend! ;) was great as Sal Paradise.
Snowpiercer (2013)-This recently was added to Netflix streaming! Very innovative and creative movie set in in the future where an experiment to try to control global warming fails and results to killing most of the human population. The few survivors live on a boarded train, Snowpiercer, that travels around the globe. A class system is started: the elite are up front and the poor live in the tail section, where they plan a revolt against the elite. A love it or hate it movie; I loved it, lol.

Snowpiercer was reviewed on our Northwest Cable News (NWCN) by their movie critic a few months ago and he absolutely loved this movie. He said it was one of the best movies of the year but was sad because he knew that hardly ayone was going to get to see it as the studio didn't promote it enough.

Emile Hirsch starred in Into The Wild, right? That movie really messed me up.

I would definitely agree with the critic; I appreciate movies that are ambitious and sometimes "out there." It was a fun movie! It wasn't playing NOWHERE near me when it came out, and I didn't see any promotion for it on TV. I've just read about it. Thank god for Netlfix! :)

Love Is A Many-Splendored Thing.

Stilted dialogue, an annoying theme song, and a Nicholas Sparks-ish three-hanky ending still couldn't undermine Jennifer Jones and William Holden's performances. Great views of 1955 Hong Kong and an interesting sub-plot about discrimination against people with Eurasian heritage.
