Over the break, I watched Godspell. I had never seen it before.

I vacillated between thinking it was the dumbest thing I ever saw, to thinking it was really creative. I will say this for sure, there was a great deal of physical activity. The timing and the practice it must have taken to remember to hit their marks just right plus remembering the song or lines they had to sing or say, that alone was worth some respect.

My favorite thing about the whole show: The Chief from Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Lynne Thigpen was in it. THis was one of the first computer games we ever got on one of our very first computer systems and my kids loved it. We played that thing constantly and I managed to make it to the end.

Star Wars - The Force Awakens. Just last night.

We were pleased. As is our custom these last few years, Grandma liked it better than I. But I liked it a lot.

I will say, it's been a while since I've been to a movie where the opening legend is splashed across the screen, and I hear cheers and applause from the audience. And at the end of the movie, applause.

I don't want to say too much about it. I studiously avoided conversations and spoilers before seeing it because I wanted to get the full effect. And I'm glad I did. So I'll do my part in granting the same courtesy to others. If you like this franchise, I believe you'll like the movie. It's more in the spirit of the original three than the subsequent three prequels.

For those of us old enough to have seen the original Star Wars when it came out in '77, there's a certain truth within that experience: We can't go back home again. Star Wars was something we had never seen before, it was glorious, it was paradigm-shifting, it changed movie-making (and marketing) profoundly, and it became the first Big Movie Franchise in a way that the James Bond series could only dream of.

Well, that isn't going to happen again. The original was the train engine, and the other cars are pulled along behind it. Some of those cars are garish and not all that attractive. And then there's the comfortable coach car that reminds you of the charm of this train. That's what this movie is.

You have such a way with words. :love_heart: Comfy car, it was indeed. Glad you enjoyed it. And yes, I was one of the ones applauding when I saw it!

We watched Brave over this past weekend. It's an often overlooked Disney Pixar that has a lovely princess who doesn't need anyone else to save her. She gets herself out of the trouble she started. It's really about the bonds between and mother and daughter and I tear up at the end. Every. Single. Time.

The Hot Spot. 1990 noir thriller with Don Johnson and Virginia Madsen. I liked its atmospheric quality the creation of which is helped by a near constant background of sultry music.

Se7en. Definitely one of David Fincher's best movies, and one of the best thrillers of the nineties, period. "WHAT'S IN THE BOOOX?!?!"
While I enjoyed this dark film, it made me feel like I needed to take a shower afterwards to cleanse myself of the bad-gunky that happens in it. Pitt was good, Freeman was great, Spacey was so excellant. Part of me wants to watch it again (I saw it in the theater when it was first released) but I don't think I want the film's darkness to infiltrate my psyche. It ain't no picnic, folks!

Cop Car - Kevin Bacon

A terrific edge of your seat movie. The movie takes place in a sparsely populated area of Colorado (At least I think it's Colorado because of a license plate I saw in the movie). A couple of 10 year old boys find an abandoned cop car (belonging to sheriff Kevin Bacon) and take it for a joy ride. I don't want to say much more but the boys are in for more than than bargained for.

I think what makes the movie work is how well the characters of the boys are portrayed.
