That's my opinion as well which means that the whole thing will probably run like clockwork. King will decide to do an impromptu signing and I will curse myself for not going. DC is a royal pain though. And now even the Metro system is screwed up and under repair.

No danger of that happening. There's no time in the schedule for anything else even if it did occur to him. :smile2:

Yep, that would also be my luck. There will be extra signed books for everyone, he will give a brand new speech with all kinds of info that no one has ever heard before. He will reveal his newest dark tower novel that is over 1,000 pages long and everyone that has a ticket will get special signed editions. HAHA. I do hope it does run well and I still may attempt to go if I obtain a ticket. But as it sounds now, it still seems like a long shot.

Yes, I did. And still it says giving tickets out at 9am for free, and that even a ticket don't guarantee you get in. Its first come first serve? SO, are they giving more than seating capacity to make up for some no shows ect. and that's what that means? Even though you get a ticket you better be there early? or what? Still to me its not clear why they are saying that.

It is a pure guess..... if you get a ticket, you better get there early, cause it sounds like first come gets in until the set capacity # is reached.

I interprete this to mean that some unknown number of tickets will be issued that surpass seating. In which case if you are not standing in line bright and early you are out of luck. Given the crush of people in the last book tour that likely means some people will start lining up before dawn. The great unknown here is how many more tickets are they issuing than they have seats for (and why would they do something like that anyway?). If there are some empty seats after everyone with a ticket has entered, why not just fill them with anyone else who wants to go instead of making ticket holders stand in line all night. I'm sure they would get a full house no matter what if that is the concern. It just seems worst case scenario to issue tickets to people who can't get in and force everyone else to stand in line for hours.

I got my two tickets. Even though it does not guarantee anything. But they all "sold out" within a couple minutes. Now I would be interested in the rest of the details. How big is the venue, how many tickets were actually given out, and how are they handling the signed book ordeal and how many will there be? Doors open at 8:30am and I assume you will have to be there even earlier to secure your spot even though you have the "ticket".

I would get there as early as you can. It would be nice to know the capacity and the number of tickets given. Ms. Mod could maybe jump in as to number of books. If I had to guess, it would be 400 like all the other stops on the tour.
Yes, it will be 400 pre-signed books but they haven't given me more specifics other than that it will be a random lottery.

So unlike the tour, we paid for tickets that entitled us to a book, signed or unsigned. With the tickets being free are the 400 lucky people going to receive a free signed book? Also I am sure I could do a little research but does anyone know the capacity of the venue where he will be speaking at?

I've sent an email asking for more information and should be able to give you an update later today. You will have to buy the book whether it's signed or not.

Thanks, I seriously doubted there was a free book involved. Just interested in the "Chances" and how they are going about it.
This is what I have so far but have asked for clarification about the notification, i.e. how far ahead and will it be by email:

Names from the ticket-holders list will be selected randomly by Eventbrite and given the opportunity to buy a signed book. Politics and Prose, the Festival’s bookseller, will have those 400 names on Festival day and will accept their vouchers in the Book Sales area of the Festival until 2 pm (this time may not be correct--will be getting confirmation of that). After that hour, the remaining books will be sold to the general public.

Thank you, that would be great to know in advance if you were getting a signed book or not. Also if you got two tickets and your name is randomly chosen will that allow you to purchase TWO signed books or? I know questions, questions. One gets answered there are ten more. But again thank you for keeping us updated so rapidly.

Ok, so the main stage has a seating capacity of 2,000. For anyone interested in the odds of the 400 signed books. Also its almost a given that there was more tickets dispersed than the capacity of 2,000 and if they are "randomly" picking who gets a signed book by the tickets they gave out, then that slims the chances even more. Lets just hope they at the very least inform ticket holders in advance.

Some seats were held out for VIP guest seating but will be about 2,200 seats available to general public and have been told you should get there early for your seats.

Emails will be going out shortly--within the next couple of days. Most likely they are using a computer program to pick the 400 tickets for the signed books so that it is a random draw and which means it is one book per ticket.

Great information. Thanks for the information. With this in mind: When "purchasing" a ticket if you chose 1 ticket your name was recorded. if you chose 2 tickets, they only asked for 1 name. "purchasing" 2 tickets will not give you any better chance of getting a signed book. They only have 1 name. if you signed up each attendee individually, you have more chances, but the event basically sold out in 2 minutes give or take a nano second!

Seems pretty fair to me! I was one of the lucky ones to get two tickets! So I am not complaining!

I would love to have Ms. MOd's job some day, just organizing an event with all the questions! planning, etc... seems like it would be a hair-pulling, handful just dealing with all his fans!
