Saturday morning, I found this guy running around in the street in front of my house. He had no ID tag. I took him to the vet this morning to get him scanned for a chip and he didn't have one. I called the Humane Society and no one has reported him missing yet. I walked him all over the neighborhood Saturday and Sunday asking if anyone recognized him and asking if anyone had been looking for a dog. No one seems to no anything about him. So, if no one claims him soon, I'm planning on keeping him. I would guess that he's about 3 years old. He made himself right at home in my house. He's acting like he's always been there and doesn't seem the least bit stressed out that he's lost.

Nobody has contacted the Humane Society about him yet. It's so weird because obviously somebody has spent a lot of time with this dog. When I put food in his bowl, he won't start eating until I tell him to. It took someone a long time to teach him that. ;-D The first couple of times I put food in his bowl, he just stood there looking at me and I couldn't figure out why he wouldn't eat. Finally, I said, "go ahead" and he'd start eating. There are so many things like that I'm discovering about him and it's hard for me to believe no one is looking for him.

Oh I hope nothing has happened to his people... and I really want you to have him, you're a great dog-daddy, I'm concerned that someone will come asking for him once you're totally besotted with him. (you might be already...)
*sigh* Keep us updated please, he is beautiful...

Is it possible that someone could no longer take care of him, and they turned him loose? I've seen it happen. Figured he'd have a better chance someone "meeting " him than turning over to Humane Society.

Last night, the owner of the stray dog (Jake - my name for him ;-D) found him. He came to my house after one of the neighbors told him I'd been walking the dog around asking if anyone recognized him. Jake's dad does live in my neighborhood but we seemed to be searching in different parts of the neighborhood and our searches didn't intersect. Jake's dad had called Animal Control Services to see if the dog had been picked up. I reported the dog to The Humane Society and apparently, Animal Control must not check the Humane Society's found dog records because they were not aware that I had a report in. I'm going to call The Humane Society today to tell them I found the dog's owner and I will mention this little glitch. Maybe they can fix that. I think both of them should have access to the same records. Animal Control takes the dogs it picks up to The Humane Society so it doesn't seem it should be too difficult to merge the phone logs.

Anyway, the dog is in good hands and has a very nice home. I can probably go over and play Scrabble with him anytime I want. ;-D

Glad it was a happy ending for Jake and you made some new friends. Maybe it's the universe's way of letting you know you are ready to find another furry companion!!

(((Joe)))--- my heart aches. But I still feel this is a sign, maybe from Ozzie-- reminding you it is time for a new companion. Maybe? his spirit provided a glimpse into the joys and fun you are missing-- walks, toys, scrabble!! that special bond.
Am thankful Jake does have a good home, and as you said, he was well cared for and trained. I hope his human companion knows how lucky he is to have him back.
Our Animal control doesn;t talk to the Human Society here either!

There's a lesson for anyone that loses a pet. Don't assume that the 2 organizations are in sync with the lost and found. I didn't realize that it was like that all over. It seems that it would make sense for them to compare lost and found records.

Thank you for taking your time to be a good foster dad to a lost guy.

Next time you visit Jake and play scrabble, use the word "Oxygen." (if you get the reference I'm going for, you really are a badass.)
