I am trying a recipe I saw on this web site - it's the one where you take a big potato (the kind used for baking) and slice it very thinly but not all the way to the bottom.

Then you pour oil into it so it gets in all the cracks and season it with salt. I used onion salt and put a big onion in the middle of the roasting pan, cut up like a flower with petals, poured some oil into that and seasoned that as well.

I hope it turns out. I cannot remember which thread it was in - probably the "Recipes" thread. I have it in the oven at 400F right now.

It's in the Recipes thread. I'm eating it right now! Not bad, but I'd leave it in my oven a bit longer next time, I think.

Why would they make boots with flat bottoms? Do not understand. I need some traction in the snow.

Bill Worb Furs :: Mukluks

Speaking of boots - look what I got yesterday!

Mine are the grey ones in the front - so warm and toasty and comfortable for walking.

Not sure if they would work where you are arista - perhaps too over the top, unless you live in a cold climate.

Mukluks. Like having your foot up a bears fuzzy butt. Puts me in mind of Jack London. If you get a narwhal cane I'll be really jealous.
This place was incredible - maybe I should have taken pictures - I have never seen so much fur in one place! I felt like I was in an old hunting lodge from the turn of the century - definitely a nightmare for anyone from PETA - there was fox, rabbit, racoon, bear, wolf, you name it. I wonder how Andy heard about this place? Maybe the Inuit up north passed on info to him about it.

Anyone watching Golden Globes?

I always find these fascinating.

I loved the opening with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler when they talked about George Clooney winning the lifetime achievement award when his wife has truly been the lifetime achiever! Look up her accomplishments. BEautiful and brains. Outstanding!

And a nice surprise was Jane Fonda. I thought she looked more beautiful now than she ever has. Older women can rock! (Okay, she is rich and can buy some of that, but I would too if I had the money.)

Girl and puppy at Christmas.jpg
I found this picture yesterday in the parking lot of a drug store when I went shopping. It is just an old Christmas card. (appears as if someone dropped it! - it said "Love from Nancy and Ernest and was addressed to Tommy).

I ripped the back off and scanned the picture, then printed it on photo paper - it turned out great! I may just frame it and put it up somewhere.

I just realized this maybe should be in Show Off Your Crafts but I have not actually framed it yet

Vintage cards are so neat! You can google them and hundreds come up for each occasion. I use them for my desktop picture on certain holidays during the year. Here's one for to get you thinking of February's holiday:

Things that are irritating me today:

1) Films/TV shows that have a military character who doesn't have a military haircut or carry themselves like a soldier. Seriously: SPRING FOR A MILITARY BARBER, AT LEAST!

2) Women on movies/TV seem to live in a tank top, no matter where in the US they live or which season it's supposed to be. Sure, Zooey Deschanel, I believe that you'd be eating Chinese take out in a drafty NYC walk up in December wearing only a tank top & thin PJ pants. Sure.

3) Speaking of Chinese take out: why do movie/TV peeps always eat it out of the box? I've never seen a real person do that, unless they're scarfing leftovers before they run out the door.

4) If I have one more writing acquaintance tell me they never read because they don't have time, I might shriek to wake the dead.

Sincerely,
The Skimom the Grouch

There! Much friendlier (and more positive :D)! Found a new (to me) book yesterday that's sucking out my brain: Sleep, Pale Sister, by Joanne Harris. What a great, fascinating story! I'm supposed to be finishing a draft today, but I picked it back up with my coffee and... well, that's all she wrote (lol). I solemnly swear that I'll get my hours and pages in tonight after the kids go to bed :)
