I received a wedding invitation for a friend's son today.
There was an odd notation on the RSVP card.......have you ever been invited to a wedding and also asked to bring side dishes for the reception?

Yes. And since it was family and they were poor, we all did it. I brought a nice Asian noodle salad. In your case, I'd probably not go either.

Sent out wedding invitations yesterday..........can't wait to eat all the food the guests bring to the reception.

They're having a traditional church wedding at 4:00 in the afternoon, and have rented a separate venue for the reception. It is a very good friend, but she has a good job and makes more a year than I do. Her mother also happens to have a couple of million from the sale of some property a few years ago......It's a printed invitation and RSVP card, so everyone is getting the same thing. Something about it really bothers me.

Sundrop -- is there any chance the printer mixed up the layout for two different receptions/ weddings? Of course you would think the couple would have to give final approval before printed. Anyone else you know that might be attending-- ask them what they think?

Nope, the printer didn't mix things up. The invitations and RSVP cards were all printed locally, proofed and mailed by the groom's mom.
I know several people who also received invitations......they all think it's tacky.

I wouldn't mind bringing things to help out members of my family, either.......I think that's the difference for me.
.....and these people are far from poor.

Now, about that Asian noodle salad.......would you share the recipe? :biggrin2:

But, of course!=D

Aunt Liz's Asian Noodle Salad

Chop 1 head of Napa cabbage and about 6 green onions together and set aside. Crumble the noodles from 2 pkg of Ramen noodles (discard the seasoning), and saute them along with 3 tsp sesame seeds and 1/2 cup sliced almonds in 1 stick of butter until golden brown. Dry this mixture between paper towels. In a mason jar with lid, combine 1 cup canola oil, 1/3 cup white vinegar, 2/3 cup of sugar and 2 Tbsp soy sauce. Shake until mixed. You can make this a day ahead of time. Keep ingredients separate until ready to serve, then combine all dry ingredients,reshake the dressing and pour it in and mix til coated.

Then be prepared for everyone to ask you how to make it! ;-D
